Cheek of it, not only are they ripping people off with 'their' lights, but also stealing peoples photos.

A certain guy I occasionally train with is riding for the UK Raleigh Team, which will be a continental team, with most of the races being here (aiming for TOB), and a few in Europe.

Oh, and another chap I happen to ride with from time to time, is the current national CX champ (in his Cat)..riding for the Raleigh factory team.

They also sponsor a South African continental team under the 'Avanti' name.

Said it before, but if one isn't any good at road cycling, and lacks a decent level of fitness, then it's bound to be boring for them. Just lay off the pies and ale and you'll soon speed up.

Maybe he's just very focused? TBH, I doubt he really cares about Sports Personality.

Thanks for the really informative replies everybody, very helpful.

@ Trekster. Looking at the course, it's very technically based, with a large amount of engineering software (Altium Designer, EWB Multisim, HP VEE, MATLAB & Simulink, ABAQUS, AutoCAD, Fluent, ProEngineer, SolidWorks) use being part of the course. It's very much focused around these technical aspects, rather than just being an 'environment related' umbrella course. At least that's how it appears.

I'm 21 years old as well, messed up my A-Levels completely, hence why I went to college for two years. Fortunately getting a decent end grade at said college ( No waiting for exam results, I already have those)

I'm not just considering this due everybody else going either, I genuinely cannot get a job anywhere at the moment, although a part time job gives me a bit of money, as well as plenty of riding time! The Job Centre is an absolute joke, so we won't even go there..

I don't drink either, so p*ssing a student loan up the SU toilet wall wouldn't be so much of an issue.

I'll be visiting the university in question for a look round soon anyway.

And yes, travelling is still an option..

    Ciao 😉

    Thanks for the replies.

Funnily enough it was a Countryside Management ND course that I completed prior to these applications.

My aim is definatly to be involved in something I'm interested in, IMO a decent salary comes with the drive to be succesful, not sure of many degrees where you'll earn a bucket load just through completion (if so, where do I sign ;))

If it's of any relevance, the course is 'Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies'

Oh, and of riding would play a part! 😀

    If I don't go now, I'll go travelling/work abroad

    Ciao

    Hard training rides/races – no.

Hill reps – Just felt nauseas for a bit after, wasn't actually sick though

Depends on the type of ride. I would suggest you'd be better at 'spinning' up a climb rather than 'pushing' a big gear. Also depends who your riding with, if people are going stupidly hard up climbs and making people struggle then that isn't fair, and it also makes them look an idiot. Not one likes a winter racer..(unless it's a dedicated training ride..) Don't attack climbs either, as oxygen debt will soon catch you out. Would agree with the above to, regarding not looking far up the road.

Find a local club run to tag along with, usually there will be a faster group, and a slightly more sedate group. The miles rack up easy, and climbs won't be such a chore after a couple of months.

I use these grips cut in half: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/bontrager/race-x-lite-grips-ec008124?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=froogle&utm_campaign=froogle

Harder than most foam grips too, and weigh nothing! 😉

Having recently changed from X9 Triggers (two failing is more than enough..) I would say that X0 gripshift is far superior, with a nice reseasuring clunk through each gear change.

    Go for it!

Lovely. Ferrari should've made this into a production car instead of a concept though. The Ferrari Aurea:

I've broken two X9 trigger shifters in the past under light use… Tried fixing but to no avail. Get some X0 gripshift instead.

Have a look through the forum, this came up a few days ago. The general consensus was that brakes don't really need 'bedding in' as such. Just ride on!

Great bit of kit Sir! Although you really should've put it in the outter ring for the photo 😉 How do you find the wheels?

Not sure if you've heard of the weight-weenies forum? But it's got an MTB section, seems like most of the users are running road equipment OFF the road, may be worth a look.

njee20 – I know that now. Didn't look at the original post in enough detail, apologies to George Budd. 😉

The idea of a tub in a clincher does sound odd I know, nothing wrong with it if you have some old tubs lying around though I guess. The guy who does it is also elite rider (on the road) if that makes any difference.

In summary – Gatorskins for the win!

cynic-al – if I got loads of flats maybe I'd give tubeless on the road a go, until then…

Had to join in. The whole idea is pretty pointless if you ask me, as somebody who riders around 15-20hours/week in all conditions on the road it really wouldn't be worth the hasstle. Gatorskins would be an excellent choice, not had a flat in months…

One other option is to have a tub inside a clincher tyre, they weigh a fair bit combined, but are pretty much puncture proof. Friend of mine does this.
