New house came with a nice wood Studio, everything looks pretty good, but i have noticed the back of the studio seems to have a slight leak? when it rains after a while the panels below the guttering get wet and start dripping….

i first though it may be due to the screws attaching the guttering as causing the leak, hence the dodgy sealant around them. But know think it may be the links on the roof allowing water to get under the panels.

anyone else had a similar issue, or suggestions? My next plan is to apply sealant along the edge of the roof panels, to stop any water getting in via there?

are you not getting blow back under that roofing ? looks like the drip profile is missing ?

possibly, drip profile sounds a good call, the only thing is its only at the particular place. also im not sure how the drips would get to the wood under the guttering, as the drips would fall into the gutter. the studio extends the same the other side to the picture with another window similar to the picture, and that has no issue

Is the downpipe blocked and the gutters actually work? Our workshop gutters are endlessly blocked by leaves from nearby trees…

i cleaned the gutter and downpipe that’s all clear, and the water butt has a hose pipe at the bottom so it automatically empties when filled to a certain amount.

pretty sure it not the wind, its too wet for that, and the other parts of the wall are not wet at all, so I’m pretty sure its a leak.

Check the panels are ok up near the ridge line, there might be a way for water to enter up there, then run all the way down the join before dribbling onto your wood panels.

is it leaking on the inside?

get out there when its raining and see if you can work out where its coming from. you’d be surprised how far wind can blow rain in…

theres no leak inside as such, some water stains on the inside walls, so it does cause “dampness” inside, i donk think anything serious, yet.

oh, and i’ve be out in the rains lots looking at it, even after a bit of rain the wood is often dry, with the leak only happening a while after the rain has started. Makes it sound like the panels/ridgeline letting in water?

This makes sense – water can go quite a distance before it shows itself, making diagnosis quite tricky. It would also make this more understandabe:

even after a bit of rain the wood is often dry, with the leak only happening a while after the rain has started.

I’d remove the gutter – you may be able to see where the water’s coming from

Oh and use a hose if possible as you can concentrate on a single area at a time – plus it saves you getting wet!
