Which tape

Just picked up a set of hope hoops with Stans Crest rims was wondering do you need to replace the green hope rim strip with the yellow tape to run these tubeless.

3M crossweave tape does exactly the same job and is much cheaper. I’ve taped up loads of mtb and road rims and not had a single leak.
