  • Standard release or multi-direction release for first time clipless?

    Hi all

Just got my first set of clipless pedals, the Shimano M647s. Bit dubious about not unclipping in time when I need to.

Is it best to use the standard release cleats or go for the multi-direction release cleats to start with?

    Thanks

Standard, you'll soon get the idea (once you've had a couple of falls) 🙂

I'm just starting out on clipless and have gone for the standard. its not as hard as I'd imagined, although the icey roads arn't helping!! 4 offs in about 100m at the weekend.

Maybe stick to flats until the ice has dissipated! Standard are fine as long as you slacken off the tension. Mind, I don't really get SPD's for off road TBH.

multirelease have the nasty habit of pulling out at inopportune moments, I hate them, and have only used them when I bought them by accident… Just get standard release and get on with it. Much better. FWIW I didn't fall off when I started using them, although I've seen many others do so.
