Chucked this together last night just using the bits that came with the frame and stuff out of the parts bin. I haven't quite decided what fork to run on it yet – either take the coil Pikes from one of my other bikes or buy something longer.

Looks good! Are those Fox forks 140mm?

Don't have a pic, but I've one of these http://orangebikes.co.uk/2005bikes/bikes.php?bike=subzero

How do I get a pic to appear in the post?

Yes – they're 140mm Vanillas. I was running them on my Soul but it's one of the original ones not really supposed to be used with forks over 130mm, so I switched the Vanillas to the BFe and put an old set of 85-125mm Talas back on the Soul.

Would have thought a 150 or 160 would be spot on for the BFe and give it a good point of difference over your Soul. Either way it's gonna be a sweet ride.

wow. that's quite a bike, erm, not sure what to say!

It's a shame it doesn't have a spilt rear triangle to allow another obscure piece of tech on there – a belt drive!

It felt good – noticeably smaller than my Soul (which is a medium) but I think I'm getting an idea of how I want to build it up now. I just missed a set of Wotans on Ebay earlier, but something like that or some 150 or 160mm Talas should do the trick. The tyres, Specialized Captains, didn't seem to suit it at all so I'm thinking some wider wheels and Eskars.

All my other rides this week have been on my SX, which is also smaller than my other bikes, and I'm thinking of the BFe as a sort of hardtail equivalent to it.

It is indeed. I don't think the wood will be looking quite as nice by the spring!

Hmmm – I like the idea of Lyriks but I keep hearing about reliability problems and virtually everyone seems to have them fixed under warranty at some point.

Funny enough these are only 6-9 rides old and are currently at Fishers having a new seal in the damper.

Apparently after they have been sorted they are pretty reliable.

The 2 steps are a different matter however.

Does 130mm count as long-travel these days?
I dunno, it's hard to keep up.

Forks reduced to 140mm which just about scrapes in to the long travel category I think..
