Going down to Dartmouth in a couple of weekends with the wife & she want to stretch the legs of her new Stumpjumper.

Anyone know of any good routes – ideally rideable straight from the town?

Something via Dittisham would be good so I can stop for ‘refreshments’ at the Ferry Boat Inn!! 8)

The Ferry Boat Inn’s one of my local drinking holes.

There’s some green lane stuff around Dartmouth and the surrounding countryside. I’ll scrawl a couple of routes onto OS maps and post them up sometime over the weekend.

Also, the local TICs sell a folder of pamphlets of local MTB routes in the South Hams which is heavily biased towards the Dartmouth area.

(The TIC in Darmouth is by the car park opposite Marks & Spencer)

    Nice one Slugwash, thanks.
You’re a lucky man having the FBI as your local – what a view!

There’s also a bridleway on the other side of the river, it starts out on the road in between Hill head and Churston and goes down to the Dart and then heads towards Kingswear, you can then loop back to the road for the higher ferry. Its mostly open lanes and bridleway, but its good for an hour or so blast.

Both sides of the river are a mix of quiet lanes and short-ish bridleways (plus a selection of trails of varying degrees of cheekyness) but there is definately some good trails that can get you in a loop from Dartmouth to Dittisham and back. Over the other side of the river I can reccommend the trails of my youth: Hillhead to Mansands and Higher Brixham (Penhill lane, Mansands Lane and around Southdown…all short but sweet)

yup, plus some arse twitching cliff stuff around the sharkham and berry head coatal path and that lovely singletrack through the woods at churston and more rocky stuff at churston cove.

Map of where you want to go to leave Dartmouth (there’s no escaping the climb out before you plunge straight back down again into Old Mill Creek)……….http://g.co/maps/cm9df
