Not really ridden in the peaks much and fancy trying it over the weekend. Is there a good route, around 20-25 miles or so that I could navigate without an os map?

lots of routes, but without a map and no local knowledge it could be a bit hard to find your way.

try the route from this link if you get lost its easy to navigate back

    or

I can email you a map if you're interested?

Park at Barber Booth > Jacobs Ladder > Edale Cross to Kinder Low > Kinder Reservoir > Middle Moor > Hayfield > Coldwell Clough > Mount Famine > Roych Clough > Rushup Edge > Mam Tor > Hollins Cross > Edale > Barber Booth

pick and choose from any of the bits on this longer route, all easy enough to join up:

so that I could navigate without an os map

What, as they say, is the worst that could happen? 😉

is it just me or do others not rate the Jacobs Ladder route too highly (in relation to other trails around – I'm not dissing the Peaks).
    😀
If you do do it I think its better to come down it i.e north to south.

Teh fall guys route link is good – but the other way around (well it is an MBR route). 🙄

yup, generally considered to be better the other way round

to be honest, you can't really go wrong if you just find the bridleways that look good on the map and link them together

    Good routes here.

Hope Triple 8 is good, but you MUST ride down the Beast (right at Hope Cross) even if just to push back up and carry on.

My fave loop started at edale, Mam Tor, rushup, Cavedale (amazing descent) Hope Beast back to Edale

If you don't know the area, the only one I'd even think about without an OS map is Cut Gate which is a straight there and back option, a fantastic ride, and little chance to go wrong cos there's really nowhere to turn off once you're on it.

You could start at this car park: http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=420108&y=401180&z=115&sv=420108,401180&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=644&ax=420108&ay=401180&lm=0

    Ride along here: http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=419005&y=396607&z=120&sv=419005,396607&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=644&ax=419005&ay=396607&lm=0

Get to the visitors centre here and have a bacon buttyhttp://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=417242&y=389492&z=120&sv=417242,389492&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=644&ax=417242&ay=389492&lm=0

    And then retrace your route

Bit daft riding without a map though, and it'll not be at it's best after the rain.

From Langsett Reservoir over Cut Gate to the cafe at Fairholmes then up Hagg Side Turn right for a cheeky down hill back to the road at Derwent then back over Cut Gate

I did that for the first time last Sat and it was just over 25 miles

Its got a little bit of everything you would want in a ride in the peaks

    TFG,

If you see this, could you also please e-mail me the map? It would be greatly appreciated.

Cut Gate will be a total bog-fest after all the rain recently. 🙁

A bit of rain makes the Cut Gate more fun IMO.

Personally, I wouldn't do any ride on the Peaks without an OS map if I didn't know the area, although I suppose you're never too far from civilisation.

I think that riding down Jacob's Ladder is more fun than riding up it, but it is a classic climb, and a real test of fitness.
