Nits!!!

They’ve only been back in school 4 days! @#£&!  Patient zero seems to be the youngest who started reception Thursday.   Thursday…. not even a week ago and he’s picked up nits. His two older sisters seem to think this is very funny   they’ve obviously forgotten the pain they experienced as we comb their long hair….. they won’t be laughing tomorrow.

Anyone else scratching now?

Plagued by them when my youngest was in infant school. Break out the Hedrin!

Yep, got them here now too! Transferred from their cousins when they were up over the bank holiday.

2 girls with long hair so an absolute joy to try and sort them out and wash bedding. Quarantine all the soft toys in to sealed bin bags for a week because the youngest arranged them all on her bed and slept with them the night before we discovered the little bastards had arrived (nits, not cousins).

We keep a bottle of this in the house – https://groceries.asda.com/product/headlice-treatment/asda-head-lice-spray-6-months/1000151615726 – a fraction of the price of the branded ones and works so much better. Apply on an evening and leave in overnight to kill any live lice then comb out the corpses and wash hair the next morning (and wash bedding AGAIN). The re-treat 7 days later to kill any that have hatched from missed eggs before they reach egg laying maturity.

Agree pocpoc.  Our son is easy to treat but the older sisters are long haired!  We informed the school and the school….. have done nothing.   Great.   Checked our son again last night,  he’s picked one up again.   With short, fine, blonde hair we are fairly confident he was indeed reinfected.

Cheers for the medication tip, we’ve a couple of bottles of one we know works that were stocked up on from Home Bargain, but good to know of another!

Tbf to them , I’m not sure what the school can do other than send out requests that pupils be treated for them. As long as there’s one kid going in with them then they’ll always spread around the rest.

That’s just it. They need to inform the class/ year group.  They have in the past.  They finally did at 3.15 yesterday.

@pocpoc – tumble dry soft toys high heat for 20 minutes will release them from quarantine- we had them 3 times last year from school and found this from CDC info, did duvets, some coats and all our pillows this way too.

I’ve spent many hours sat in car park by those 24hr laundry machines as quickest way to bulk sort an infection. Gotta love school sharing is caring.

Cheers, will bear that in mind if we don’t get rid of them this time round. Annoyingly the dryer part of out washer-drier has recently decided it doesn’t want to work any more so would also involve sitting in a petrol station car park.

I see your nits and raise you with the scabies letter we sent out today at the Primary I work at. Ugh!

I’ve not had nits for years but a perk of being a biology teacher is that I can look at them under a microscope. They are well adapted to their habitat tbf.

And now I’m all itchy.

For the past 5 years or both.of my girls have had nits any any one time . Even during the holidays the lice.just pass back and forwards between them. My poor wife is the nit nurse for our house, god knows how.many days she already spend combing and checking.

Scabies! Holy moly.  Please no.
