I’ll start this by mentioning that I’m not sure if it’s the write place to post this but here it goes:

I’m planning to buy myself a new bike , and just can’t decide which size I should take. I’m 6 foot and with normal body proportions.

My current bike is a Genius LT in size L , reach is 433 and I’m using it with a 60 mm stem , top tube 610mm and it feels spot on.
The Propain in L has 465 reach , comes with a 50 stem and has as top tube of 623 .

I’ve done some diagrams in Autocad , and regarding top tube length they seem almost the same given the difference of 10mm from the stem, the only difference comes from reach numbers.

Therefore , how much will this affect overall feel on the bike ? Going for a 35mm stem would help ?

From a personal experience I’ve had a bad experience choosing M for the Genius and I’ve been lucky since I’ve found a guy willing to do a frame swap. Also I’ve called the guys at Propain and they’ve told me to go for M , but I just can’t decide. Maybe you can help a little.

test ridden some bikes with loads more reach than mine (current bike 405, test bikes up to 470) this year and they’ve felt great.

swing a leg over a longer bike.

Go large. Remember that reach is only relevant when you stand up on the pedals (although when sat you’ll feel your feet under you a bit more for longer reach due to the steeper seat angle) as TT length can be the same while reach is different for any given bike.

Also, if the stack is lower on the Propain then it will have a longer reach, so don’t just lookat reach.

Have a play with this – http://www.bikegeo.net/ and put in figures that give you the same bar height to see what I mean.
Although if you’ve done CAD already then you’ve probably fathomed it all out anyway.

Nice looking bike, that Propain. Don’t like the shock position though, it’s going to see a hell of a lot of mud on the shock and linkages.

Stack on my Genius is 599 mm and Propain has 611 mm . I don’t worry for seat tube lenght since when I ride seated my seatpost sits at 740-750 mm from BB height .

@george. I had a friend with a similar Tyee frame from them and that carbon mudguard on the back does its job quite effectively .

So I’m 99% on the Large right now.

I’ve played with the bikegeo tabel and this is what I’ve found.

Nothing to add, sorry, but those Spindrift bikes are very, very tempting.
