Ah well… after deliberating over what ebike to get I ordered a Canyon Spectral:ON which was delivered last week.

Took it for a 18m ride this week — awesome ride, with exception of a rattling EP801 on no pedalling input (which i’m believe is a ‘characteristic’).

Today I get an email from Canyon stating I must inspect the battery for cracks in the casing, but regardless of this put it back in the bike and DO NOT RIDE IT. They said they will report back in the next 4 weeks with a solution – impacting 1000’s of owners worldwide. So I have a bike and can only look at it for a month 🙁

I’m sorry but after spending 5k on a new eMtb that I cannot ride this is not acceptable.

I am half tempted to ask them to take it back as technically they have admitted there’s a defect and I’m sure there’s some legislation that covers me in this scenario.

That is pretty pants, but what else do you expect them to do? 4 weeks isn’t all that long when it comes to rectifying a widespread issue like that.

If you like the bike is four weeks going to make a massive difference? If you returned it now it’s probably take a few days for you to sort, a week to get back to them, a week or so to process and refund etc which takes you to where you will be anyway if you do as they suggest. I’d rather wait and see what they suggest.

I do sympathise that it’s killing the new bike vibe.

Not great, but you could just carry on riding the bike anyway, assuming you don’t see any cracks in the casing when you inspect it. just take sensible precautions when charging it, ie don’t leave it charhing over night, and keep it in sight, charge outside if viable
