  • Kids Ride Shotgun rip off- Amazon

I realise that this is a bit grubby, but I thought the Kids Rode shotgun was great, but very overpriced.

I borrowed one, thought it was great, my son loved it, but at £120 it was crazy money for a heavy bit of steel.

    when I saw this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B08LNSD9PF?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

I was sceptical, but ordered one, thinking I could send it back.

It’s bloody good for £30, and very close to the original. The only difference I can see is the foot pegs, have a lower quality plasticky grip and maybe the finish on the steel is slightly less well finished.

i feel for Kids Ride Shotgun, but feel £120 was pitched too high.

Thing is, Kids Ride Shotgun is a rip-off of the vastly superior Mac Ride.

    Mac ride for the win!

Is the ‘faux’ shotgun seat made from the same grade materials etc? Or is it a proper knock-off nigel?!

That’s just bollocks. Other than sharing the upfront position they are completely different. I don’t believe Mac-Ride were were the first upfront seat to market either.

I think the materials grade is as good- quality bolts- same as Kids ride. The rubber between the main two pieces of steel and the bike is possibly even better quality than the original.

the finish on the seat clamp assembly is slightly worse.

    otherwise a very faithful copy

I’m not sure “Rip off” is fair really. As far as I’m aware they are a small company that have no-doubt invested in product development as well as marketing to build some kind of profile. As often happens, it looks like a Chinese factory has copied it pretty much exactly and then used Amazon to distress the market for them, before moving on doing the same thing to someone else. I have one and it’s fab. Would I have bought the knock off had they been available then? I’m a bit tight, so possibly, but I bought mine through my LBS so I won’t be losing any sleep over paying what I did.

Don’t envy the top tube that has that clamped onto it.

Hi Limbo, sorry, I didn’t mean the original was a rip off in that sense, I meant that the copy is a “rip off” in terms of the fact that they have copied the Shotgun.

Don’t apologise, my misunderstanding. Not enough coffee yet.

Don’t envy the top tube that has that clamped onto it.

If you’re talking about the design, most of the force is downwards on the top tube, the side loading is mostly just to stop it sliding horizontally. If you over-tighten the QR lever, the vertical bars just flex inwards anyway. The product is fairly well established so if it caused catastrophic frame failures, I’m sure we would have heard about it by now.

i’ve clamped it on my carbon Jeffsy and a steel frame too, not problems what so ever, it doesn’t even mark the frame in any way, and the clamping force is minimal.

I dealt with these guys when they 1st started selling to the UK, they were ace – great product too. I feel bad seeing the knockoffs springing up (that is just a blatant copy as well!). They have also been targeted by a lot of scam adverts using their videos/marketing on social media too which sucks.

Thing is, Kids Ride Shotgun is a rip-off of the vastly superior Mac Ride.

    Yeah, that’s bollocks.

It’s nothing like the vastly more expensive Mac Ride apart from the fact it’s in front of the rider. Mac Ride is a lot closer to being a rip-off of the LOCT seat which is actually quite a similar design.

Clamping is fine, have used it on alloy and carbon frames weekly for the last few years without any issues.

I have a similar, but less complicated ‘Oxford’ version. It’s been used loads mostly for the 3 yr old, but 5 yr old occasional takes a ride too. There is a bit of twisting if you try, so I imagine there might be some top tips be marks, but it has some invis strip under. It was around £35

Umm Oxford bike products made a clamp on front seat with footpegs at least 25 years ago, we got ours 2nd hand from my uncle when his kids grew out of it.
    Same as this one.

5plus, yeah there have been many TT bikes for kids- this Amazon one is a direct copy of the Shotgun one

Mac ride is well worth it, the seat is shaped far better to keep them on.

Used price on ebay this spring trailed the new price by about £30

So effectively the same cost of ownership of the cheapy cheap top tube crushers.
