We’re staying with friends in the summer and they’ve offered to lend us their car.
My car insurance covers me to drive someone else’s car but not outside the UK.
Has anyone done this? We’re going for a fortnight so don’t need anything long term.
    Thanks!

Get them to add you to their insurance.

I don’t know how it works in France but I believe in some European countries the car is insured rather than the driver, worth checking with your friends!

In France, it’s almost always the car which is insured, not the driver. The opposite is actually pretty bonkers when you think about it.

Named drivers on the policy will typically have lower excess.

Check with your friends that this is the case. We’ve been in France 16 years and every policy we’ve ever had has covered the vehicle regardless of the driver. Us plus our staff get lower excess.

Thanks everyone, really helpful. I’ll speak to our friends.
    Cheers
