I am looking at getting a wood burner installed at somepoint in the future, and as the chimney stack on my house is in the process of being rebuilt I thought it would be worth getting a flue liner dropped in now.

So …….. after speaking to the builders merchants they are very expensive compared to the online prices, so does anyone know the catch with buying online? And if there isn’t one can anyone recommend a store thats anygood otherwise I will just google for flue liners.

I think I need a 150mm class 2, 904 liner does that sound about right?

If you’re sure it’s only for a woodburner, 316 is normally fine, and a lot cheaper. 904 can handle solid fuel as well.

There’s no catch with buying online. Might be worth seeing if your builder’s merchant can quote competitively if you give them the online price.

Just double check all your measurements!

I went the expensive 904 SS route. It meant I could use coal if I chose, and I thought it might last longer anyway.

Oh, and just because an online supplier is cheaper for the liner, it might not be cheaper for all the other gubbins – cowls, adapters etc.

In your situation, I’d probably plump for the 904 – there are advantages to using a bit of solid fuel now and again.

My understanding is that coal can keep burning overnight, whereas wood can’t in my stove. Though I haven’t tried yet.

Just rang someone up, and gone for the 904, and saved a few hundred quid over the builders merchant 😉
