What are Ridgebacks like for temperament?
Very much a family orentated dog, loves being part of the family. When they get to about 18 months of age they change from being daft puppy to becoming quite "aloof" with strangers. But once the stranger has been introduced as a friend,he is welcomed with open arms(or should that be paws :P)There not a gaurd dog like a doberman, german shepherd ect.More a non-confrontational guardian, who will only use agression as a last resort.
A good example of this was when my wife was out with him and a jogger came running towards her.Rogue(the dog)who was off the lead at the time came running back and stood directly in front of my wife and never took his eyes of the runner until he was out of sight,at which point carried on as nothing had happend.

Was once walking a Ridgeback for my mum's friend in a large park in Leeds , a group of lads came walking past and on purpose one shoulder barged me. Now I'm not a small bloke but I'm no trouble maker either so just tutted and gave him a mucky look then walked off , the guy went for me and the dog (afrika) went mental I'm glad she was on the leash .

    They're very protective of their companions.lol , the guy must've sh@ himself 😆

dad was bit poodle bit bearded collie bit springer

Had a bearded collie/springer in the surgery the other day, was apparently beardy + springer mental. Does the poodle in it calm it down a bit?

    here's my charlie boy

he's the 2nd rough collie i've had, and they are superb dogs. smart, athletic, kind and rather handsome. like a border collie, but less mental (i've had border collies in the past and think they're great dogs, but they're slightly crazy).

1 Dogs I have owned: longdog and dobermann (both rescue)
2 Dogs I would like to own: any rescue, but I would like a Wolfhound or a Weimaraner
3 Dogs if space/money were no object: hundreds of rescue dogs (and rescue donkeys and rescue ducks)

    Labradors

We got out first Border T when they were still very much a dog only in this area and not really heard of, now there's millions of them.

    1. Never been lucky enough to own a dog.

    2. Would love a Lurcher:

    3. But might possibly end up with one of these:

    Lancashire heeler.
Fella who lives near me has a pup, see him occaisionally when out on the bike – I'd never heard of them before, but he's a bit of an evangelist.

dougal – she ( fudge ) is 2 yrs old now and has just about stopped being a puppy. she`s got quite a mild temperament .although she is always ready to play and has to have at least one scatty fit a day , which normally entails 3/4 high speed laps of the dinning room table.i think either the lab or the poodle bit helped.

    At present:
    1x old yellow lab.
1x Tri colour Cardigan Corgi X-ed with a Collie.

    Both rescue.

What I want next: whatever dog I next collect from the RSPCA – it just won't be a small, yappy thing.

The girl n me have already named our dog… sad we know, but we have been planning on getting one for a good while.

With the impending acquisition of our own first home we will more than likely adopt a rescue dog in the nearish future. Love Retrievers but will just go with the first one we both like at the centre type thing.

It will probably have to be a shop dog as well seeing as i would want to 'live' with it rather than leave it at home.

Anyway, here is Jazzy, the girlboydog – belongs to GF and her parents, he lives in aberdeen and has had tons of lumps removed and a broken arm, and lost an ear to a cancery thingy. I love him.

    2. Would love to have an Irish Wolfhound

    3. Anything not to large (Great Dane, Wolfhound)

When I lived in OZ, I had a hankering after owning a Kelpie. Smart, domesticated farm dog.

Ended up being an RSPCA recidivist!

Please can people refrain from posting cute pictures of border terriers. Everytime Mrs Duke see a cute BT puppy she wants to have another BT pup. And well, who am I to refuse? 😆

Some absolutely cracking dogs on here!! Those Boxers' are handsome!

Boris: My weimaraner, from a rescue dedicated to this breed! Not to keen on children as they make him nervous, doesn't always listen and does what he wants (hopefully doggy school with sort him out)

Chocolate lab, ruddy lovely dogs in every way
    Boxer dogs, again wonderful animals
Rotty, just because they're big silly dogs
Vizsla, similar to Boris so hopefully a play thing if I can get one!

    jt 😉
