Any chance we can make this a sticky? As eBay ads really are the gift that keeps giving.

I was having a peruse on eBay as you do and this beauty caught my eye.

Apparently it can do 102mph. Just the job to get that that pizza delivered in jig time.

I thought eBay were banning private individuals selling ebikes, or has that policy not started yet?

    102mph

    Aye.
Of course you’ve done over a ton on that.

IIRC I think it’s sometime in November that the ban starts. Happy to be corrected though.

How can anyone think that sort of monstrosity would be safe?

Just out of interest, anyone got any idea how your average cheapo MTB tyre would cope with those claimed speeds?

The thought terrifies me, but that’s from a good imagination rather than any real-world experience or evidence.

Imagine trying to slow down on the 160mm discs it seems to have?

It’s also QR at both ends…this might also be true of the rider in the event of any emergency and subsequent crash.

Would like to see that front mudguard at 102mph!

I don’t think so – this guy’s done a way better job of making an external battery not look like total dogshit than Cotic.

If its so good, how come it’s only done 32.6 miles (maybe km)? Only been ridden for about 20 mins at 102mph?

Someone ask him for video evidence of how fast it’ll go

I’ve hit 40+mph a few times and its never much fun to be honest. For me things get a bit hairy about 35mph if we’re talking sustained speed.

Full on aero tuck the other week (on a very un-aero eMTB, complete with rucksack containing pork pies for lunch) saw 42 on a road descent.

Hauling on the brakes seemed to make very little immediate difference and I was quite close to going through the back window of a Nissan micra. That’s with 4 pot brakes, sintered pads and 203mm discs.

I wouldn’t even want do 102 in my car let alone sitting atop that piece of misery.

Yep above 30 really notice how ineffective even big brakes are. Once on a big grassy descent somewhere round the Tweed Valley, plenty of grip, but 203/203 and Dominion A4s, feel and see the RockShox Pike bending, then after slowing down misjudged the remaining braking capability and crashed into the gatepost at about 5mph.

    Kinetic energy of 100kg at 10mph is 1kJ, 20mph 4kJ, 30mph 9kJ, 40mph 16kJ.

100mph is 100kJ. Even with 246mm rotors (or whatever the next size up is) front and rear, you’ll be a long time stopping.

I got up to 70mph on my Vespa once, on a long slope with a good wind – It was exhilarating and terrifying. I can still feel the vibrations in my arms in the cold weather.

My pb is 55mph (the hill down to Auchmuir Bridge in Fife for those who know it) Downhill, wind-assisted. Had to slow down because there was a corner. It was fine. However, that was dry tarmac and loads of grip, tyres will probably just as much of a factor as brakes. Would I want to do twice that just in Lycra though? No. I suspect not even in full motorbike leathers

    .

A friend of mine in his late sixties was telling us about a trip to the Pyrenees with his road bike. One story ended with “…doing 74mph. I could have gone faster but I got scared” Not bad for an old man!

I’ve done 98.6 kph on a commute on an MTB on black top with a mate on a road bike behind me. There’s a slight dog leg in the road and it takes a bit of guts to stay off the brakes. I’m nowhere near the KOM though. Fastest on Strava down that hill is 116 I think.

Regularly see 70-80 on gravel on nearby hills and have overtaken a car at that speed one Sunday morning.

Unfortunately, this ebay special “May not post to Australia” so I guess i’m out.

I reckon it would be 1 mile to get up to 102mph and then 33 to slow down again.

Hmm, 203mm discs + avid bb7s seem to manage to slow our tandem down quite effectively from 50mph, but then again I don’t tend to tailgate nissan micras at that speed.

    Stay classy.

I can never really fathom why some people take the time to write out snarky, negative shit like this, especially to a company that clearly takes the time to come on here and interact with customers. Nice.

I hit 52mph once coming down one of the hills on Arran . I overtook a car as well but now realise how stupid that actually was.

Rules for the emerging willy waving contest:

    State your speed

State what inappropriate bike you were on

State which beasty or totally inadequate brakes you had

State exotic location where it happened

State what dire consequence that you narrowly avoided

I used to have those Crud Catcher mudguards, pretty good and looked nice, too. Didn’t mount the front one like that though! Read the manual, people 😉

What’s the point in having a suspension in the frame and fork if your saddle is all rigid?
