So who’s waiting for their Canyon 29er then?
I ordered a XL 8.9 and the order said it was week 10 (ie this week) in Germany and then will take a week to get here. My credit card has not be debited yet so I assume they haven’t arrived yet.
I see medium ones are listed as in stock for immediate delivery on the Canyon site now.

Any feedback on these? I had my Scandal 29er nicked last week and the 8.9 would be a perfect replacement…
    Many thanks

I’ve had one for a couple of months now. Can’t fault it. Fast, great components and cheap. The DT Swiss forks took a bit of bedding in, but they are soaking up the smaller stuff better now.

I’m getting some chain suck/dropped chain issues but I think that could be down to me clattering the rear-mech…

Another owner here, had it a month or two now. On the whole a positive experience save for the seatpost which I couldn’t stop from slipping with the standard QR, on removal it seems I bent the post as well. Oops. I’ve replaced the QR with a MT Zoom bolt up collar and all is well. I’ve used it for short races, general forest trail rides and it had an outing at Mayhem this weekend, with CX tyres it would have done well without me riding it! I think my Spesh Camber will be up for sale soon.

mines changed a little since its arival in April – new saddle (didnt get on with the kurve i orginaly replace the OE saddle with), grips, chainset (xo 42/22) – never managed to get the xx in the end, seatpost (although not had a ‘proper’ ride on the uppy downy thing yet). Most of the changes are nothing to do with the original spec, more personal preferance and wanting to try a dropper seatpost. But i did find the 32/22 chainset undergeared for the area i live in, the X0 is 42/28 which im finding much better and i’ve a 11/34 cassette to try as well.
As for how they ride – fast….. i used to just keep up with my mates, now i’m faster than all of them, knocked 2.5mins off my fastest lap at ashton court too. I’d highly recomend it – not sure if i’d go for the 8.9 i were to buy it again, as the 7.9 is amazing value.

oh and as for weights as discussed earlier in the thread the original spec medium came in a smidge under 25lbs (now about 1.5lbS more with the dropper post).

Keen for a dropper post on mine (after being Jedi’d) – let us know how you get on!

I also swapped out my saddle, added an XT cassette and went for some proper Schwalbes (non OEMs). Got some ESI grips on the way as well, plus a Shadow Plus mech.

    plus a Shadow Plus mech.

thats next on my list – bit to pricy an upgrade at the mo though….

I think I’ve bent the cage on my existing mech – possibly the cause of my chain suck (pedalling backwards). I’m hoping this will fix.

Had any chain suck issues at all?

Oh and flipping and lowering the stem was a revelation handling-wise. I was getting a lot of front wheel wash-outs.

One more thing – the 29er replaced a Spesh Epic. Wouldn’t go back to a short travel full suss in a hurry, but do miss a bit of bounce on rockier trails. That’s probably down to me needing to pick better lines…

nope none – i’d get your lbs to measure your mech aliginment to check it out.

flipping and lowering the stem was a revelation handling-wise

one of the fist things i did when building the bike 😉

but do miss a bit of bounce on rockier trails

yeah thats just part of swapping back to a hard tail.

Overal great bike, though I have to return it back for the repair as there are some strange noices coming from the headset/fork. DT Swiss have some issues with this fork if you try to google around.

really? the only people i’ve seen that have problems have been on here (and have also bought a canyon).
    any links to other issues?

Anyone upgraded the wheels? They are bolt throughs aren’t they which could limit choice a bit?

Any news on the carbon 29er?

I think the carbon one is one in the autumn http://twentynineinches.com/2012/06/10/canyon-presents-2013-cf-slx-carbon-hard-tail-29ers/%5B\url]
Bolt thrus do not limit choice nowadays.

Still not happy with the DT Swiss fork on mine. I guess I shouldn’t expect it to be as push as a 140mm Fox, probably needs a few more hours to bed in too. I’ve got a Reverb on min but isn’t getting much use due to the state of the gorge trails in Bristol.

Is it just me or is there a canyon revolution going on. I never heard of them till a few months ago. I now have a strive and love it, the company seems ultra professional interested in promoting cycling sports of all sorts. Their R&d is first class and they have just started CT testing stressed parts. Seems a far cry from a run down greasy factory in Halifax lol

also if you ocasionally run a dropper post like i do the Ragley tripple guides which you can pick up from crc fit really nicely 😀

I’ve bought some superstar switch/crest at £220 they are a reasonably cheap & light way to get the bolt-through axles. I’ve found using fork juice aids the bedding in process. I have got a bit of a creak from the front some where….

After of 600-700 km of use my Canyon AL 8.9 developed loud click type of noise coming from the headset area. Tried to clean and regrease the headset with no change. I have at leaset one person around with exactly the same problem, so I’m not the only one. The guys plans to wait for Canyon feedback on my bike. The noise is present without the front wheel as well. No change, it clicks on horizontal and easy vertical movements.

    I’ve sent a video to Canyon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul3cj1z0DsU
Canyon insisted on sending the bike to them asap. Bike sent. Waiting for their feedback and hopefully bike back in couple of weeks. The bike is awesome otherwise.

I shall watch this space, my strive after 150 off road miles has started a slight click around the head set area at the moment I just think its normal bedding in I only notice it on the climbs and there is no play

If you’re going to “upgrade” the wheels, get the original hubs built onto some Stans rims with Double butted spokes. They’re essentially DT 350S hubs, which share the same internals as the 240S just with a slightly heavier hub body. They’re country miles ahead of the Superstar hubs!

OEM DT rims will probably be a bit soft though, nothing wrong with them til they die though to be fair, probably light enough at least.

That carbon one does look the Mutts nuts, that said, was seriously impressed with the ally 8.9 in the flesh too. Would buy one tomorrow if I could afford it!

Renaz – any news from canyon yet, I realised at the weekend mine does the same noise, just not as often as yours.

I’ve got the same noise. Doesn’t sound too nasty so haven’t really taken too much notice of it. Certainly would send my bike back to get it looked at, but will be interested to hear what Canyon say…

Actually, after watching your video, mine’s more of a creak. No where near as loud as that.

Update from the Canyon. DT Swiss is replacing the fork and the new one will be installed on the bike which will be sent back soon. No more details on the fault.

The bike is back with the new fork. It took 6 weeks exactly to get to send and get the bike back. 2 weeks more than Canyon forecasetd.

I’m still getting the creak. Not keen on 6 weeks without the bike though!

Hmmm. I’m the same, I’ve still got the creak (even after a full strip and rebuild of the headset, as suggested by Canyon) but I’m also doing bristol octoberfest in 4ish weeks. So I’ll wait until mid October before contacting them again.
