[Closed] Anyone homemade a fork mount thingy for transporting bike in the car/van?

You could weld some 15mm ID pipe onto a base, would probably be more robust than a printed one but almost certainly more expensive

Ironically I didn’t use them in my camper build. There’s not enough space for the bars to be straight in a 2 bike garage if you want a 2 person rock n roll bed in a low roof swb

I used some 15mm pipe clips (like these)) to make something similar for mine - it was actually just to clip a bit of board on under the fork so it doesn't scrape on the ground when the wheel's out, so doesn't need to be as strong, but I imagine two or three would hold it pretty firmly.

I have made one for a bike with QR forks out of bent metal a threaded axle and nuts but I don't think that'll help you with a through axle. My suggestion would be plumbing supplies. If you use the link that 'The northwind' gave and click on clips at the top, there are loads of them. I would suggest some metal ones clamping a piece of pipe with an internal diameter that matches your axle. I'd go for plastic pipe as it won't damage anything but provided you use enough clips, it will give enough support. Mine was mounted into an 18mm piece of ply which I wedged under the seat mount. I mounted the clamp to the wood with countersunk bolts rather than screws so they would be no risk that they would pull out if my cornering was too fast.

I’ve made one...3/4” sch 80 seamless pipe (leaves an ID of around 14.5mm) cut to size and clamped onto a wooden block with pipe clamps.

Guessing the plastic pipe you get on some rockshox forks (other manufacturers available) would be better.

N.b. Mine is on a plank which goes in my Yeti, so I need straps to keep it upright, and the 2.5mm clearance between the axle and bore isn’t noticeable.

We have the Rock Bros fork mounts in our van which allows us to switch between axle sizes easily with different adapters. I think I paid about £30 each. I know that’s not making them but they do work well.

1/2” sch40...ID = 15.76mm

Electrical conduit fixed onto a block of wood. 3D printed a shim so the ID was jus over 15mm.

I made 2, then mounted them onto a length of ply the width of the boot. They can be rotated so bars don't touch. Used them a lot with no issues.

I also made one for the rear as well as I keep my bike in the main bit of my campervan and otherwise the rear wheel sits near the handbrake. This was an old rear hub supported on some wood. It works well and enables me to store the bike to one side more easily

There's a lad on pink bike printing them and sending them out for £22 each or £40 for two.
