My T5 came with some cheap 19 inch TSW alloys on it and the front passenger side wheel has cracked again so it’s time for some replacements, some proper load rated ones this time. I know there’s a few Transporter drivers on here so what wheels have you got on your vans? I am struggling for inspiration so seeing a few might help me with deciding what to fit.

Most T5 lads I know end up with Range Rover wheels, same PCD 5×120. Personally I’m a sucker for wide/banded steels though.

I’d like alloys on my van purely from a looks perspective, but I prefer the feel of bigger tyres, and the ability to get cross climates on em.

I’ll just need to continue with wheel trims!.

16” VW T5 oem ones with winter tyres.

I like them but the van has to be low for them to look good. I’m stock height so they would look weird on mine.

This picture is not ours but it is exactly the same as our T5. The wheels came with the van.

I replaced the 20” alloys that my van came with with some more sensible 18” alloys and the ride quality was improved overnight. I went with wolf race ones that were for vans. Can’t find the exact wheel on their website but similar to their Eurosport munich design. Looked ok to my eye.

Big big rims are nasty, banded wide ones look silly IMO. Too many issues of poor ride and wheels scuffing the trim and arches to be worth it.

I got rid of the non load rated ones my van came with, liked the look of stock steel rims but now -got some standard 16″ T6 alloys on so I’ve got a recent amount of rubber & air between the rim and the road.

If you have a van converter near you then you can pick up 4 near new wheels and tyres for less than a couple of tyres – they’ll take them off and put silly big alloys on the overpriced campers

Maybe join an owners club and see if anyone has any originals or else to sell.most people on these types are sites are trustworthy and the prices probably better

What load rated T5 do you have? Having a T32 will limit your options.

IIRC rimstyle.com will show you which of their alloys are load rated for your van based on reg number.

Took my 18” load rated alloys off the van last year. Went for decent steels and new rubber. So much nicer to drive.

    How about factory steel rims?

Steels and BF Goodrich K02 A/T tyres. Never get stuck on a grassy field again.

For me, if you’re at stock height, can’t go wrong with some OEM T5.1 Sportline 18″ wheels and a sensible tyre. Look good, easy to find etc and bolt straight on. 18″ Amarok steels are also a good option.

I also quite like big nasty rims and silly banded wide ones… coupled with collapsed suspension obviously.

Mine’s got alloys but I always wanted the 18″ steels from the Brazilian Amarok, would need to get them homologated here though so it’s not worth the bother.

Where are you Bob? Germany? Its weird how strict some countries are with vehicle modifications and yet in the nanny state UK I’m perfectly fine fitting any wheels I want, any suspension, cutting/notching the chassis and dropping in a 2.5 TTRS engine (maybe one day) with no bother at all…

Mine has 20″ Zito, came fitted when we bought it. Didn’t see the point in paying for anything different as I like the look of them. T32 lowered by 40mm.

I put 20″ from the stock ones on my T6. procrastinated for a while on the different sizes. Didnt want to lower it so the bigger ones fill the gap a bit better. The ride is not much different to the slim original steel wheels but the consumption is down quite a bit.
    Not a great pic

20 for looks, 16 or 17 factory wheels for cheapness, 18 for a blend of everything. If you’re sheffield drop me a pm if you there’s anything wolfrace you fancy and i can get a price for you.

As mentioned above Rimstyle’s website is great for window shopping, especially if you want fully load rated rims and tyres.

I like a lowered van (mine is close to 100mm and will be going lower) but it’s a very personal thing. A bit like having a stock height van with 20” wheels which to me just looks odd.

Practical, no fuss options are stock 18” sport line alloys, 18” Amarok steels and 17” GP steels. All load rated and able to take properly load rated tyres. If you want to spice it up a bit then 19” Amarok Cantera alloys look the business but are in quite high demand at the moment and will cost a chunk more.

@wzzzz I like those, are they just standard steels? Powder coated? Is that a clip on centre?

I had 18” on mine but just swapped to 19”. No real difference in ride quality.

Had 20” on an previous van which were too big for me, they affected the ride and I think the mpg.

I have the 18” vw Dakar’s I took off my van sat in the garage. Would sell them for the right price.

Impeccable taste sir. Practical over posing sure.

Those Dakar wheels look like a very sensible option. Decent size, load rated and not in your face style. What sort of money are you thinking @squealer?

Well, The outer lip of them all needs refurbishment – a well known issue with these diamond cut alloys. Not sure if you can just do that bit or whether the whole wheel needs doing. A local place quoted me £75 per wheel for a full refurb.

They’ve got tyres on, 2 are decent and 2 have a few thousand miles left on them.

Vw price is circa £320 plus vat each wheel without tyre so I was thinking somewhere around £400 for the set as is.

20inch on mine, for looks only, it does make for a fairly harsh ride.
Surfer is that a bay leaf green? If so, same colour as mine.

Not sure if the image upload has worked?

Mine came with 20” load rated alloys on, I keep thinking of going down to 18 or 17” to make the ride a bit softer and mpg a bit higher, will it make that much difference?
