Upgraded my mum's computer after she complained about the speed... made it blindingly fast and doesn't take 15 minutes to log in anymore (looking at you, Vista) . The response? A shouting match about how the desktop icons (Word, Internet Explorer, and Outlook) weren't in the same places as usual.
So it's now back the way it was... hard disk like a ruddy bomb site. Even OneCare collapsed trying to back it up. Dunno why I bothered. Email's being forwarded through Google Apps for a partial backup, but that's it.
24000 photos scattered all across the disk? "HOW DARE YOU TRY TO MOVE THEM, I KNOW EXACTLY WHERE THEY ARE!" I predict crocodile tears if the computer is ever stolen / breaks.
My advice? Don't ever try to help.

Thats why you want to consult people while fixing things, rather than just doing it how you do your own 🙂 I know how everyone else lays out their files/icons/apps etc drives me ****ing nuts, I'm sure my methods would annoy others!

why did you have to move the icons on/from the desktop ?
If you cared, you'd have moved all the pictures to one file but replaced them with shortcuts in all the random places, so your poor old mum could find them 😥
