Why was/is chip and pin shite?
Paid in 4 cheques now this morning that had been sitting about gathering dust...

Mind....blown...
Why was/is chip and pin shite?
It places the responsibility for fraudulent payments on the user, rather than the bank ("you must have disclosed your pin")
Skimming / cloning is still possible. (pay cash in bars - the only place I've ever had a card skimmed / cloned)
It's still better than a mag stripe.

Do they say that?
Do they say that?
Yeah, they can do.
If you've been "grossly negligent" in keeping a coded pin with your card or something like that.
I'd have thought that incidences of chip & PIN fraud are incredibly rare. Either you have been negligent or someone's shoulder-surfed you typing in your PIN and then bopped you over the head and lifted the card. It's way more likely - cos it's easier - that someone would use a card (or a copy of the card details) to do fraudulent transactions which don't require a PIN.
Chip and Pin got bad press - but they glossed over the fact that mag stripe cards can be duplicated with a cannibalised twin deck cassette recorder! (or an off-the-shelf card reader/writer if you are feeling fancy).
Huh, well, my £2 odd cheque got chucked in the bin. So much for technology! The Lloyds app wouldn’t photograph a printed cheque. Error error error 😡
