I enjoyed the first one, but the plot was a bit silly - I think they crammed a lot of story in to set the scene for the rest of the series.
On the face of it Mulder has a set of beliefs based around a decade of investigating for the FBI, he has actually seen real aliens - especially in the films and other really amazing out of this world stuff - and then after a short conversation with a web nut and a strange woman who lives in a cabin dismisses it all without a moments pause and leaps to the next crackpot theory. He reminded me of Dale from King of the Hill.
But, I can suspend my disbelief and just enjoy it for all its silliness.
He had stopped believing before that it was in his long drawn out speech he did. I like the way it has digs itself and the silliness it had. The scripts were never great just simple entertainment.
I liked it. The script was terrible, but once I realised it was just one long 'previously on X Files, over the last 15 years..' it ceased to matter. And of course it was a hurried set-up but they've only got 6 episodes. A denouement of the entire god knows how many episodes previously was the only way to go I think.
Brought it all bang up to date, answered a load of questions with more questions - bring it on 🙂 X-Files is its own sub-genre, so it can ham it up as much as it likes in my book. Even then, the concept was delivered with passion and a bit of barbed current political commentary which paralleled the search for truth in the show with the search for truth in real life.
I'm in.
what about the movies, are they included in the cannon? I have a vague memory of something about bees and mulder rescuing scully from a big alien tent or something. Can anyone remember?
Bees carried the pathogen and they were in a tent.
I didn't watch the movies!
In fact, I got bored around series 5 or 6 or something. But back then, I was a student and depended on people showing their videos so it was easy to miss. Nowadays with Amaflix I can be much more consistent in my series viewing.
I lost any interest in the plot fairly early on and just resorted to perving over Scully. It's all good as long as Eugene Tombs doesn't make a reappearance, I couldn't shit for a week after that episode.
I was not impressed with episode 1, the dialogue was awful. CSM being back after being blown up seems ridiculous (although we are supposed to get an explanation for this in episode 6 - I hope it's a good one). Mulder was too quick to dismiss all he'd previously seen and believe the new conspiracy.
I have seen up to episode 4 and they have all been much better IMO, especially episodes 3 and 4.
Saw first episode which I was really looking forward to but I admit I was very underwhelmed, disappointed.
Anyone else having bother getting Channel 5 catch up to work? I'm on a samsung chromebook which is fine for everything else.
It was acting like a man this morning 🙁 gave up
this is not the X-Files I remember...
...nor I.
I just flicked on
Its Murray from flight of the concords !
Hahaha wtf did I just watch?! 😆 that was awesome
"I'm not a lizard! That's racist! "
Murray was ace! Especially the camp skipping away in to the woods!
Deliciously silly.
Loving Moulders' ring tone...
so have they all been that daft? or was this a one-off silly episode down to Darin Morgan?
One off I hope and pray! Next week looks like it's back to work as normal. IIRC they used to throw the odd silly episode in occasionally.

I hope this isn't considered a spoiler
No, no, not at all...
(Scrolls back up a couple of posts... 8O)
That was glorious, utterly bonkers episode - one of the greats.
just seen the finale, spoiler alert! utter pish!
I've just watched episode 3. Couldn't stop giggling- so wonderfully tongue in cheek. Loved the bit about the disappointed serial killer and his prepared speech. "save it for the court room!" Priceless.
Yep, last one is pretty blah!
Laughing away to ep5, but then again I was a fan of californication
Watching 5 now too. Was laughing too great little scene.
I am enjoying the new series - my thoughts so far:
I am glad they are approaching it silly, not serious.
Gillian Anderson is proper slummin' it, and I hope she is getting paid loads.
Rhys Derby is my favourite kiwi actor, never even tries to do an American accent, well done him, and he should be in everything.
Rhys Darby is my favourite kiwi actor, never even tries to do an American accent, well done him, and he should be in everything.
I thought he was Australian.....

Managed the first two but the surreal third was too much for me - watched a film instead!
Guess you missed the 'Spoiler Free' bit
Don't like the jokey approach, watched about 10 mins of the last episode and then turned off.
I'm oot.
But they did jokey ones in the original series too.
Just finished 6 nice season cliffhanger.
Camp lizard man thing = utter bilge. Even Mulder looked like he couldn't believe he was investigating such a shit story. I don't think we'll be continuing with it.
This is the first one I've seen, well last nights. I have recorded all the previous episodes and after last nights, I'll be in no hurry to catch up on them.
3/10 at best.
No wonder it's on a channel no one watches.
Good grief thank the lord that's over. A lesson in how to bring back a classic series and completely destroy it.
My thoughts exactly. I've stuck with it but every week I think WTF? It's almost like they were told they could revive the series but the budget was £4.50/episode.Good grief thank the lord that's over.
Completely disagree - the whole series was wonderful, silly, little-bit-scary, life-affirming stuff. Hands-down the best thing I've watched on TV so far this year.
We watched the first two before deciding it was bilge & didn't bother with the rest.
I watched every series before deciding it was Ok. The original series had some cracking episodes but often some bilge, seems some have forgot about that.
its true, like many other long winded series the first season seems to capture the imagination, then it usually tails off into silly obscurity.
Rarely does a series continue to grow. The original X-Files was certainly a case of the former, it's just a shame they didn't treat this revival with a bit more love and attention - it could have been moody and mysterious and paid homage to the best bits of the originals, or even outdone them. But it was just plain daft instead. Had the feel of a 'post X-Factor/BGT world tour' about it, ie, cashing in before doing one.
I truly wish I had the viewers enthusiasm and abandonment of finbar though, it must be great to not hate 95% of standard TV offerings!

😀
I dunno though, it's not like I'm lapping up most of the dross that's on - this just really struck a chord with me. The only other TV I'm really looking forward to this year is the Olympics and series 5 of Game of Thrones.
Get on to Better Call Saul! It's ace.
Currently working through Walking Dead from series one. Halfway through season 2 and invested enough time into it now that I will see it through, but its not as brilliant as I was lead to believe.
Didnt realise what a spikey character Gillian Anderson was until watching here interviewed recently, good on her, not a person to be messed with.
