Good post P-Jay.
I'd get an M5/M6, and then hire a Ferrari, etc, if the occasion merited it. Which in reality would probably be never for the reasons given above.
Hell no. I'd mebe hire one or two every now and again to have a blat about in, but own one? What's the point? Massive massive liability, both financially and in terms of stress and anxiety. Now a helicopter on the other hand... No, wouldn't have one either. If cash is no object, why bother 'owning' any of these depreciating time consuming liabilities? Rental would be the future.
If sir or madam has to enquire about the cost, then sir or madam cannot afford it 😉
I don't currently have a car, and haven't learned to drive. My taste in cars however is extremely expensive.
🙂
Only if a had such a stupid amount of money that I could comfortably own, run and enjoy a Macca F1 or Lamborghini Muira.
Otherwise, I'd rent one occasionally or join one of those supercar clubs. For day to day driving, I'd probably treat myself to a 911 and make sure the garage disabled the traction control button so I could never switch it off and get myself in trouble!
It goes without saying that I'd have already bought a decent van and a fleet of bikes of every conceivable niche (except a 29er)...?
And I'd be first in line when Google (or whoever) brings the first driverless car to market
I have zero interest in most modern cars as they seem refined to the point of being boring and I'd also just feel way too much of a tit to drive a Lambo to a wine bar...
On the other hand, part of me would love something like this:
The problem being is that I'd be 99% sure that it'd actually be utterly useless and as a result I'd cry for a week and then kill myself.
Is that a rear light cluster from an Austin a Princess on that DeTomaso?
my brother recently decided to go down the investment/pretty to look at/occassional sunny Sunday road:
I'd get myself an NR 750. Cars? Definitely not a supercar. for all the reasons above. I don't like the idea of being controlled by your possessions.
I'd probably keep the mondeo estate, maybe get a Caterham 7, and a bells and whistles van.

...I don't like the idea of being controlled by your possessions...
That puts it in a nutshell.
Yup, I even get it with my bike. Great way of getting around, but I don't want to leave it places in case it gets nicked, so I end up walking more!
Something like a supercar (or similarly expensive toy) needs to fit into your life.
Of course, that means it wont fit for most people, but for others it will fit fine. Probably those who don't have any demands on their time / money or work to worry about.

I have a special scruffy nondescript bike for when I venture into Scroteland (Inverness). 🙂
I could see myself having a few cars if I had a lottery win. Something like a bmw 5 series tourer would be my everyday transport, something I could travel around Europe in.
But I could imagine getting some cars for fun/collecting as well, probably not a supercar unless I decided to live very close to the Nürburg ring, but more likely I would have some classic cars re-engineered to bring up to date the driving experience. A 60's mustang and a healey 3000 would be top of the list.
Not for me, never been impressed by cars really (beyond A to B practicality) , so don't see the point beyond the obvious - ie buy to identify/impress the similarly impressed* or else a personal fetish**
*Unless at the race track, but not into car racing so may as well ask me would I buy gold taps and sink plugs?
Gold taps? Of course not, thanks.
** I last month scratched the bronze-cromica paint on my 1994 M-Trax hardtail. Have been deeply gutted almost to sleeplessness as can't match the colour.
That I can identify with, it's a "sports car" without eye watering price (or unusable eye bleeding performance) convertible* and by all accounts is also just a normal car for normal driving.I saw this last Saturday, first one I've actually seen close up, and I was smitten!
Might even be tempted to get a 2nd hand one older generation as a second car in a few years if I've got the cash 🙂
*never driven one but reckon they'd be nice for a summer drive in the country.
yes but I'd have that RS6 on the same based as the person who mentioned it
that person has a name you know.... 🙄
oooofff!! Nice jacket!! 😆
Not on your nelly.
No interest in that soft of thing whatsoever.. I fully believe that an unhealthy interest in fast motors betrays some very serious underlying mental illness, very probably sexual..
And even considering the possibility of purchasing such a thing points to a VERY unhealthy interest
I wouldn't have a supercar, I'd have an impact bumper 911 or similar.
