I know there are a few keen woodworkers on here.
Built/wood butchered an enclosed pergola at my back door. Its made of chunky Rough sawn pressure treated timber with a douglas fir floor.
it has a polycarbonate sheet roof - Cedar clad half height sides , and 2 of the walls that are existing parts of my house - are cedar clad.
This has a redish/grey hue, the new wood is much greener looking.
The new structure will have removable window panels - so the inside doesn't need to be super weatherproof.
What products should i be looking at to colour the timber - and then to UV stabilise the colouring ?
For the floor - i plan to Stain then Varnish ? - Any recomendations for something hard
We used Protek Wood Preserver++ on the summerhouse, it's spruce and we used the clear satin which has (as expected) turned the pale white into a warmer yellow. And for the floor we used Ronseal Trade Ultra Tough Floor Varnish. The Protek stuff was definitely available in colors as well. 2 winters on and it still looks like new. It goes on like watery PVA so you sort of expect it to soak in like a stain but it's actually got a bit of a lacquer to it.
Will take a look at those.
See if these work..... Won't see the colours as I've only got photos at the end of the day....
After much pissing about with offcuts.....
I binned the idea of stain. I sanded back the rough finish then charred the non description timbers grain and danish oiled the lot.
Gonna contrast with the floor being sanded flat and epoxy varnished with sadolin PV67 and then jute rope joint stuffed

After much experimentation I've used this product on a large amount of outdoor furniture with really good results
At first it was the drying time that sold it but everyone who's seen the results has been very complimentary, it also goes a long way and has a really pleasing satin finish that pops the grain!
I do feel like it might cost me more in gas than a decent stain......

Had to dig down a foot for levels to avoid a step up out of the utility. One of the downsides of a low threshold.
