We want to go as a family which means including our 7 year old....

I know its a 12a so will it permanently scar her 'snowflake' mind and make me a bad evil parent....

Just after a bit of guidance why it's a 12 from somebody who's seen it...(without spoilers)

Violence mostly I suspect, they are chopping each other up with laser swords. Length more then any else is going to be the issue with young kids Id have thought

Various people get exploded in spaceships but the most graphic part is a fight scene with some lightsaber impalement and non-gory dismemberment of faceless bad guys. There's one low key swear word and zero sex

Same level as the past two films.
If you’re happy for her to watch them she’ll be fine.

Took my 11yo son and 7yo daughter last night - they were both fine.
A few people get blown up or incinerated but that's about it.

Slightly OT but this made me wonder how old I was when I saw the original Star Wars when it was first released. Apparently it was out in 1977 so I would have been 7, which seems really young now. Not sure what rating it was though?

I remember being frightened by the serpent in the garbage compactor, but then who wouldn't be?

A New Hope was, and still is, a U. Despite the incinerated Aunt and Uncle and Vader choking people to death.

Really a U?

Iz disappoint. I thought my parents were a bit 'edgier' than that 🙁

(I shan't rise to the New Hope marketing piss)

I found an interesting thing with my kids. At age 4/5 they could watch more violent or scary things than they could as they got slightly older. Because as they got older they could actually understand the violence, the people were being hurt, and it affected them more. Personally, my 8 year old hasn’t seen any of the newer films, nor will he until he’s a bit older. But that’s just him. I suspect his younger sister will be able to watch them fine.

I took babybgoode to see TFA when he was 3 1/2 (I know - lynch me now etc).

We're going to see TLJ tomorrow (he's now 5 1/2).

Took him to see Rogue One also.

18 rated certificates only get issued these days if they come from the Harvey cooperation.

Everything else is PG.
