The Queen's health is looking dodgy, and it may soon be time for a new monarch.

The next monarch cannot become King of Scots unless he has a coronation in Scotland.

What happens if the Scots refuse to crown another monarch, or pick one of their own choice - as is their right?

It looks like no more UK to me. ๐Ÿ™‚

Or the stone of Scone is placed under the Coronation throne in Westminster abbey (cos it's currently back up North of the border innit?)

Declare a republic.

Then sell Balmoral to Donald Trump to be turned into a new golf course and use the cash to shore up the Scottish government's spending plans.

Theres already been a 'Last King of Scotland' - kind of rules out there being a next one. But being a polygamist with at least 40 'official' children working out the whole primogeniture thing would be a bit of a headache anyway.

Not really, we have last week, last Thursday, etc, doesn't mean there won't be another. Would need to be 'Last and Final'

How about something more international?

President of Scotland?

Vice President of Scotland?

Does that sound very Merican?

President Salmon or Vice President Sturgeon ...

if the Scots are smart they will insist on a separate coronation north of the border, all the tourist income is bound to be attractive

There is a separate coronation.

The Queen came to Scotland for her coronation as Queen of Scots. It was just kept hush hush and done with minimal ceremony - not even wearing the regalia. We all heard about the big coronation in England, but I don't remember any mention of the one in Scotland at the time (and I was living in Edinburgh where it happened).

The monarch's sovereignty is different in Scotland - we have to approve of our monarch, who rules by consent and not as of right.

That's not a bad idea big_n_daft, we could have a new monarch every year and have the coronation at the Edinburgh Tattoo - great tourism booster. Perhaps firing the predecessor out of Mons Meg into the cheering crowds in Princes St. ๐Ÿ™‚

Mcmoonter for king of Scotland, he'd be able to paint his own coronation and build the throne

Is that actually true though? The coronation throne at Westminster Abbey, at the time, contained the Stone of Scone/Destiny, as it symbolised the united kingdom because Scottish monarchs must be crowned sitting on it. So, sitting on the coronation throne she was sitting on the stone, and so was crowned monarch of Scotland.

The stone has no authority. The English ceremony has no authority in Scotland.

Several kings and a queen were crowned in Scotland without it after it was removed to England.

Th queen came up to Scotland immediately after the English coronation to a tumultuous welcome and attended a service at St Giles Cathedral where she was presented with the Honours of Scotland, the Crown, Sceptre and Sword. That was actually her Scottish coronation. Without that ceremony she would not be Queen of Scots.

And that's why she beat it up to Scotland post haste after her English coronation because there were mutterings from those nasty nationalists. Maybe this time... ๐Ÿ™‚
