Yesterday on Twitter, I was directed toward a thread asking if anyone remembered a TV programme called Eurotrash, as the OPs wife was convinced he was making it up
"Of course I remember it," said I, "featuring the late great Jean Paul Gaultier and the very much stll alive and working Antoine de Caunes", linking to a youtube video of Eurotrash highlights and tagging Monsieur de Caunes, who I follow.
I was swiftly corrected on this by a few people including forum hero @Pook as they pointed out that Jean Paul Gaultier was ALSO still very much alive and working. I was MORITIFED (I was still chuffed to bits though that Antoine de Caunes liked my tweet, I was squealing like a fangirl).
Honestly, I was CERTAIN he was dead. No, I didn't confuse him with Karl Lagerfeld or Alexander McQueen, I just knew for certain that he'd died. Except he hadn't.
Who were you convinced was dead until you were shown quite positive proof to the contrary?
Joe Cocker
Ken Dodd's Dad's dog.
Happened to me twice in quick succession, 'is X still alive?" I asked, only for it to be on the news the very next day that they had just died, Colin Powell and Desmond Tutu.
My colleagues are now convinced that I can curse famous people by asking that question
Somebody from the original cast of Dads Army
Who were you surprised to learn was NOT dead
Myself, after yesterdays close pass.
That is three out of three bike commutes with ar*eholes drivers this week - a left hook, a SMIDSY pull out and a close pass. Is it schools going back and more traffic?
Only the other day; Michael Caine. was discussing it after trying to figure out a question in the Guardian Sat Quiz
Was convinced he'd shuffled along last year. Sorry Maurice.
Elvis. Quite surprising really.
The Queen - every single day. I swear the one on telly is just animatronic, they keep the real one in a vat of formaldehyde in the basement of Windsor Castle just in case anyone figures out human cloning.
26"
The Lord, our Saviour
Punk
Keith Richards.
Op - Gianni Versace?
Before answering this id have to spend too much time on google double checking 70's TV peados
Arlo Guthrie and John Cooper-Clarke. 10 years ago at the Edinburgh Festival. Quite surprised to be able to see them live. And see them live.
Seen JCC loads more on telly and that since then, though.
Barbara Eden. She's still working.

Stevie Wonder. I'd forgotten how young he was when he started in show biz.
I've always loved keeping a track of exactly this on:
"This is a list of 50 celebrities chosen by the DeathList committee, before the start of the year, for the fact they may die in 2022. The concise summary of the DeathList rules: Candidates must be famous enough such that their death is confidently expected to be reported by the UK media; Candidates cannot be famous solely for the fact they are likely to die imminently and only 25 candidates can reappear from the previous year’s list."
Look back over the years to see how its changed over the years
Keith Richards.
How in the world is that man still alive, exactly?
Like Ozzy, I think the copious amounts of substances have just pickled them.
Me and a workmate had a regular game of Alive or Dead going.
Chris Rea was the last one to catch me out. I think I was getting him confused with Joe Cocker though
Jimmy Carter
Mountain Bike Rider.
Huh! I thought JPG was dead too? I wonder how the rumour started?
Edit - I didn't think it was a recent death either, I thought it was 10+ years ago! Happy to hear he's still alive! Ahh Fond memories of early teenage years and Eurotrash on Friday. I think "Crossing Continents" on R4 is missing a trick not having regional UK accents to do the translations of non-English interviews and comments...

We used tk have a drinking game like that, at new year pick five people who won die in the coming twelve months, for each one you got right everyone else would have to get you a drink next new year, double points for assassinations.
Everyone always went for the Queen Mother and the Pope and they just kept going
I didn’t think it was a recent death either, I thought it was 10+ years ago!
yeah, me too!
Jesus.
Everyone always went for the Queen Mother and the Pope and they just kept going
Er, have I got news for you!
One of old housemates had a similar game to above… but with financial rewards, you won money if you guessed who was going to die first!
I too thought JPG was dead, turns out it was a hoax around a year ago.
My colleagues are now convinced that I can curse famous people by asking that question
That's a superpower you should use wisely, but if you are taking suggestions....
Jim Dale
Richard Ingrams - 85 today and has managed to duck the curse of gnome
Somebody from the original cast of Dads Army
Clive owne was in his 40s when he played Jones so seemed to live forever
Ian Lavendar was flat out young so isn't really in that bracket of "shoudl be"
Dads army is an interesting cast. The guy who played Godrey (who what a conchy medic in the show) in real life suffered from bayonet injuries from hand to hand combat in the trenches.
WTF!? Mikhail Gorbachev is still alive!
There was only ever one correct answer and that was post number 2
I'm also very happy that celebs can disappear into obscurity. That feels like a good thing really
I was convinced I'd heard that Prince had died and couldn't understand why people weren't going on about it more. Then he actually died about 2 days later and everyone really did care about it. I'm still a little freaked out by my prediction!

Wow! Never knew that one. He was also in the real Home Guard in WW2.

LOL. When the inevitable happens and he meets his fate, it'll probably be dismissed as misinformation.
Leslie Phillips. Ding dong.
@andrewh
Ask out loud if Donald Trump still alive and do us all a favour...
Oh yeah, same about Putin...
Worldclassaccident
Excellent. So there are TWO correct answers to the OP
Mark, I think it only works if I genuinely don't know, and both of them have been on the news recently.
Bill Pertwee, who played Hodges in Dad's Army, could be next if he is still alive...
Google tells me that he died in 2013, but also that Frank Williams, who played the vicar, died two months ago. That wasn't on the news was it?
Sly Stone - thought he died from a drugs overdose. Still going through the power of funk.
Your mum.
