Just noticed the drinks cabinet is somewhat devoid of whisky bottles with contents.....

Went to buy a bottle of my favourite tipple a 12 year old edradour finished in port cask - to replenish it a little and  find it's been discontinued .

So any suggestions for a similar whisky -im tending towards a sherry cask finished 12 year old balvenie sherry cask finished  as I know I like that.....infact it's that whisky that started me off on whisky thanks to a certain Galloway ebike pirate on here at sswc...... shortly before he wrote off his frame.

The balvenie is 35 quid the edradour was 55 quid that's the ballpark I'm not spending the kids inheritance 😉

If you like Islay malts try Caol Ila. It's lovely and under £40 on Amazon

Do they do a sherry cask?

The Laguvellin distillers edition that is a sherry finish is very interesting with the peat in there.

Try these, the Glenfarcas 21 is excellent but out of budget

Has to be Balvennie Caribbean Cask surely?, one of my favourites. Perfect for a mid ride whisky stop with a few medjool dates and a handful of nuts

Dalmore 15 year old. Similar sort of profile. Very nice. Think it's at the £50 mark.

Could try Dailuaine 16. Amber bliss in a bottle.

Good stuff folks . Will take a look at suggestions.

Not a huge fan of peaty whiskies very much a speysider I do venture out to some islands some times but I save caol illa and lagavulin et al for a nip at the pub , I don't think I'd enjoy a bottle.

A Yamazaki ? There is one in budget and it's very much a speyside leaning whisky if we can compare like that.

Talisker do a port finish, Port Ruighe.

Also one of my local shops gave me a nose of a port finish Tomatin (I think...) which smelt lovely, but not enough to tempt me away from my current peat obsession : )

Aberlour finish a lot of their's in sherry casks, can't remember which ages off the top of my head.

I do know they do a very nice 16yo sherry finish, it was a hand filled gift from the tour though 😉

Glenmorangie Lasanta is good - much more flavourful than normal Glenmorangie. I was surprised by it when I had it.

I believe the Benromach Organic is what you seek.  You'll struggle to beat it at that price point.

I'd give that a miss TBH.  Talisker has a strong flavour which doesn't sit at all well with the port finish.  The port finish needs a softer, less powerful base and I'd suggest Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban if you want to try a port finish - which I'd recommend

If you like sherried Speyside.

I bought my Father a bottle last year and advised him to take it with a bit more water than usual. He later asked me if I was trying to kill him.

not for me , tastes smoky in a bad way for me - i know its not really supposed to but i cant get over it tasting smoky to me.

i like the sound of that Glenmorangie having just had a look at their tasting notes for the Quinta Ruban, - right in my price point too.

Interesting.. I only bought it after a tasting at the distillery, so after three or four other Taliskers I guess the port finish was quite obvious. I don't remember distinctly enjoying the bottle (certainly wasn't moved to buy another) but at the time I hadn't figured out how I 'like' whisky so was just drinking it neat, and it was quite strong!

not convinced on Benromach either TBH.

Aberlour as swavis recommends.

Dalmore if you can pick it up at reasonable price. Strathisla would be a good choice; local petrol station here has a good range at remarkably low prices.

Lidl do a Glen Alba 25 year old blend that has been in sherry casks for £35. It is very nice neat

Review here https://scotchwhisky.com/whisky-reviews/new-whiskies/7676/batch-16-lidl-limited-releases/#7672

The right place right time bit can be a bit strange I think it must depend on how much they guy has been drinking.

Ooh one I just remembered is the Glenfarclas 17yo, just looked it up and it 's 100% matured in Oloroso sherry casks. I'm not always a fan of Glenfarclas but the manager who is a friend gave me a wee cheeky dram at the whisky festival this year and it's bloomin' gorgeous, £60 a bottle so not a completely mental price either.

Try the 21 😉 I've had some older too along with a couple of specials from a mate who is a proper nut for them.

He also took us through these

Join Hobart's number 1 GlenDronach Tragic, all-round Sherry Cask enthusiast, and Lark Distiller - the venerable Jonnie Edwards. From its founding in 1826 to being named Global Distiller of the Year in 2015, we will also delve into a few stories of GlenDronach's fascinating past. And how this distillery has shaped some of our whisky appreciating lives.

The line up:

Batch 5 55.3%,

Batch 6 56.1%,

The 1992 Single Cask 24YO Oloroso Sherry Butt 58.4% ,

1994 Single Cask 21YO PX Sherry Puncheon 53%,

1995 Single Cask 20YO PX Sherry Puncheon 54.6%

Unfortunate though as I don't think most are available to buy anymore and none are even close to your price!! They were however excellent
