The one that makes you want to play more if at all? Not necessarily the most technical or noodly, the one that just sounds right to you.

I've been in a funk listening to electronic music for months, and as much as I like it, I've got a renewed passion for playing the guitar. Weirdly, this was what did it..... I promise I'll listen to Mayhem later to balance things out

Love the whole thing, but it does have just about the best opening track of any album I know.

I think one of the finest guitarists around today is Buddy Miller. I'm not a massive country fan but his tone is wonderful. Otherwise probably Richard Thompson. Or Frank Zappa.

Any one of many albums.

At the moment where I'm learning to play bass, it's the Smiths / Meat is Murder

I can play the rhythm and main notes of the riffs of some of them but the extra notes and twiddles are beyond me so far, but I'll go back and fill them in when I get better.

eg: last night's half hour fiddling was

I’m having a little difficulty with the definition of this thread (most of the music I listen to features guitar to an extent and my immediate reaction was to post a el Camarón de la Isla y Paco de Lucia video, infact I will). But I guess the only thing that I can immediately thing of as guitar is this:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jlbunmCbTBA

Here’s Paco, phenomenal:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TPt-nRG74Hw

Also, the three albums I’ve been listening to a lot this last while all strong feature guitar. And I mean a lot. Here’s tasters...

Nilüfer:

Lately been enjoying Mattias IA Eklundh’s Freak Guitar series, probably ‘Smorgasbord’

I always, inevitably go back to Frank Zappa. Impossible to choose a definitive or ‘best’ album, and most often those most beautiful, head-blowing improvisations happened live.

So today, Matthias, I’ll going with ‘Dupree’s Paradise’ - notably the title track in which Frank’s picking begins in earnest at exactly 7min 40secs:

For completion, an English guitarist/composer - and that would be Mr Ed Wynne of Ozric Tentacles fame.

Southern Harmony and Musical Companion by The Black Crowes. Live Rust by Neil Young and Exile On Main Street by the Stones.

Not so much an album, but a time in a city & a record label.

Pretty much sums it up.

I’m having a little difficulty with the definition of this thread

Yeah, I don't play guitar (play bass) so nothing makes me want to play one. Only cos I'd never be as brilliant as Andy Gill. So if I wanted to listen to the best I'd play

either that or Atoms For Peace, Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood stuff.
And this bloke from Girl Band, don't know what he's called, but he knows how to make strange noises out of a guitar.

And Suuns and Squid.
Utterly disbelieving that anyone listens to that ****ing Star is Born soundtrack. Sorry.

Alongside Paul Kossoff ..my favourite guitar player would be David Gilmour..however without posting something obvious ..there is a guitar player who on certain tracks out Gilmour's ..Gilmour....
Step forward Bjorn Riis of Airbag ( he also has solo albums ( for lovers of Pink Floyd)

from the album : Identity
stick with it ..( guitar solo is near the end )

metalheart I missed that Television link earlier as the page wasn' loading

+1 that LP (and Television)

A while back I found this live version of 1880 or So. Tom vs Richard in not so much ‘duelling-guitars’, more ‘dancing, teasing-guitars’.

‘Astonishing’ and ‘beautiful’ are the words when I hear it.

Luna!!! They use to be my favourite band at uni, even met them at a gig and went for beer and nachos.

Youve inspired me to listen to some Lunapark and reminisce about the good times..

As for the op's question..appetite for destruction
