[Closed] What's the point of comparison sites if they're not accurate?

Currently trying to renew my car insurance. Getting very annoyed as after clicking through to get a quote the price changes (in an upwards direction quite a bit). So what's the point in a comparison site?

To fund good adverts. Lawd knows we need them.

When I insured my car earlier this year, I used the comparison sites, one company came out consistently cheaper on all of them, so I had a quick look on Quidco and they were doing cashback for policies taken out with them directly, turned out that a quote from their website was also cheaper than they provided through any of the comparison sites too.

Tried that option, but get to the point of wanting to make payment and they decide I can't book online so no cashback

Most are just a marketing tool - some of the main insurers such as Direct Line won't appear on them.

Comparison sites seem to be the only thing funding commercial TV and as such seem to appeal to the hard of thinking.

If you tell some people you'll save them money, they'll believe you.

But surely even those people notice that the price listed on one site is 500 quid yet when they come to put their payment details in it's suddenly 650 quid?

Have designed and tested said sites in the past and while some sites are less truthful than others (no names) a lot of discrepancies are in the detail. So you click through and the excess changes from £250 to £100 or breakdown cover is added and the price goes up!

The insurers do this to up there revenue. The key is to double check and tick and untick all the boxes you do or do not need. The aggregators would get strung up if they consistently misled.

Who in themselves are part of a bigger group who own several niche insurers.

One thats not on comparison sites for middle class people who think they know better.
One that claims to insure only women
One that specialises in young drivers
etc
etc
etc
