A small business that through no fault of its own has had a hard time. My friend who runs a photography portrait business for example.

And of course the two obvious. Hard black fuel and fishing rods.

The Arts. They've had it rough, in particular freelance musicians.

All of the above plus something to wash it down with.

Honestly? I have just the day doing a bookshop pilgrimage around London. Went to Daunt’s in Holland Park, Waterstone’s in Bloomsbury, and Foyle’s on Charing Cross. The number of superb-looking titles out right now made is ridiculously hard to stay solvent. £500 would help me immensely.

Can I claim I am local to stw towers and get a lifetime subscription?

If not then an olympus tg6 and the rest towards either takeaways or maybe part of a set of sony noise cancelling headphones.
the boy will get taken to the lego shop and told he can decide (within the £250 limit)

I honestly don’t know. Possibly a couple more AudioPro speakers, clothes or a gravel bike frame. Can I spend it on the classifieds here 😀

Edit - I’d put it towards an Eames style lounge chair or an AudioPro Drumfire.

New deurallier for my poor old Boardman after ripping it off today at gisburn. Oh and a new shifter and chainset possibly a dropper. Might as well put it towards a new bike.

New wheels for the road bike maybe. Or a refresh on the biking clothes that are getting a bit loose/baggy after lockdown.

American style fridge freezer and a new oven.

Or an Öhlins coil shock, depending on how the wife wanted to spend hers.

Set up a black market buying government vouchers with cash for half value. Then eat out forever.

UK holiday.

Or new carpet.

Or could I backdate it to the new custom wheelset I have paid for but still awaiting delivery - which was exactly £500?

Mine would go towards the titanium road bike bike I have ordered from a local bike company (ok, built in China)

Kids would be spent on music stiff or books from local shops.

Wife will recycle the money via eBay on second hand handbags and clothes

I have a friend who has lost in the region of £20-30k in trade due to lockdown, small businesses like his were really screwed by the current situation.

If I'm allowed to I'll spend it with him - he runs a really nice reclamation and furniture business near Exeter.

Though he's convinced the govt will either actively exclude businesses that don't belong to their mates, or give the scheme so many caveats as to be unworkable.

For example he was given a rates grant by the govt of 10k, but the grant was taxable, so he had to hand back about 25%!

I’d replace my NAS with a new more powerful one. Considering doing it anyway, just reluctance to spend out stopping me.

What are you replacing? any good for a NAS newbie?

if it comess off the canoe is a good shout, been considering one for a while.

kids would be spent on clothes shoes etc (which effectively means i'm £250 x 2 better off already)
We'd give them free reign but tell them they need to buy certain things (1 x pair of trainers, 2 x sets of PJs, etc)
My £500 would be used toward a Kamado BBQ, purchased from our local independent BBQ shop - this is assuming the wife doesn't suggest something more sensible (which she will) so in reality it'll probably go toward sensible stuff for the house.

I cannot see any chance of the Government doing this - the implementation of it will be a total nightmare, with fraud and cock-ups at every turn.

He's been advised wrong - part or all of it would be taxable if his end-of-year figures showed a profit. If they show a loss there's no tax to pay. It's just classed as income and worked into your balance sheet.

Seems fair to me.

As someone who as already pointed out this isn't free money, the tax payer will have to pay It back. And whilst i have no issue paying tax to improve essential services, id be far less keen to pay knowing it's going to funding little jonny's xbox game collection.

If there is a requirement to prop up the UK economy, then fine, but giving thousands of pounds away to families to spend on nonsense seems a terrible idea to me (although a sure vote winner)

anyone know the deal with this? lot of chat people seem pretty sure its going to come out, but there seems like there will be lots of restrictions. Like would have to be on a high street store so no .coms. As long as I can spend this fictional money at my LBS i will be happy its where all my money goes anyway.

After today's events, a new commuting bike is a good contender.

Definitely going to a local business. Was thinking of a good painter and decorator.

Or you could let me make your soft furnishings. I've finally got some orders after 4 months without work, but the order books aren't full and I can't see work every being the same again.

I've spent mine already.
Why not? It's virtually guaranteed money.
Guess a lot of people will have too, a bit of retail therapy after months of lockdown. Boosted the economy too.
There's no way they'd let this out then pull a U-turn, would they?

It's not come from the government, it's an idea that's been put to the government by an independent think tank, one of many ideas suggested.

There was no mention of this amongst plans that are going to be announced today, such as stamp duty holidays, young staff employment grants and VAT reductions when I was listening to Radio 4 this morning. Put your wallets away people.

“What would you spend the 50% off meals out, up to a maximum of £10 per head, during the month of August on?”

Guitaring toys.
I've spent enough on bikes over the last 10 years.
