[#12364854]

I've used Acast for years but have recently had a couple of notifications that it's shutting down so I'm on a hunt for a new podcast app.

What I need is (in no particular order) -
Android availability
Free (yes, I'm a cheapskate)
Easy to use
Easy on the eye
Not massively memory or battery hungry.
Can access all the podcasts I normally listen to, including some BBC ones if at all possible. I've always got Sounds for them though if not.

I do want to avoid Spotify and the Apple one (Apple Play?) If at all possible.

Cheers for your recommendations.

Same boat as you, I've migrated over to Pocketcasts which appears to be pretty much the same functionally (you can export/import your subscriptions from one to the other btw).

Pocketcast is a good app but I am bitter about the fact I paid for the full version then a year later they made it free.
Currently using the Google app and it seems to work as good as any. No where near a heavy user as I used to be so may have missed subtle features a more serious user would require.

Such as? I listen to a lot of podcasts, if I'm missing some useful features I may change, but google just lists my podcasts and I play them...struggling to see what else I need.

I like Podcast Addict. If you put me on the spot I'd struggle to say why it's any better than anything else though because it's all I'be used for years!

I've been using Player FM for years. It does the job well enough that I've never tried any others.

Such as?

Maybe something like a certain way of adding them to a playlist. Or sorting by oldest first, while filtering out the finished episodes. Can't remember if it does that. Maybe more relevant to me as a less oft user who likes to listen to episodes in order.

I used Player FM for ages. I switched to Pocket Casts because Player FM was missing a functionality I needed. Something to do with adding feeds by URL rather than search I think. Can't really fault either (other than that one fault).

I've always used Downcast after trying the Apple one and 3-4 others, just easy on the eye and most importantly just works, used it for 10+ years now and i', a podcast addict listening to 7-8 hours a day as i work

Thanks for the recommendations folks. Had a quick look at Pocket Casts and it seems to do all I need and more so I'll be giving that one a go first but may try others later, just for the fun of it

I think I need to get out more 😉

Pocketcasts fan here. Does carplay, has a Sonos channel so easy to continue listening to things when you go to the car or get home, and remembers position between clients eg if you started on phone but are about to listen on ipad while you zwift.

I paid for it before the changes so have Plus now, I do use the web/desktop clients and sometimes the (phone-less) Apple Watch one but I probably wouldn't pay £12 a year for them.

I'm a bit late and it seems the OP is sorted but since I'm very often late in the other server (as my son calls real life) then I may as well be late in this one too... +1 for pocket casts. Also recommend by a family member who is high up in the international world of commissioning podcasts.

Doublepod here, free, simple to use.

Been some brilliant suggestions for podcasts on here, love it when a new thread pops up with new ideas.
