That was my other choice Hot_fiat. Harefield is a pretty impressive house.

Have to go 5 miles from my postcode to get a £1M+ house. it's a bit meh though the 3 car garage would be awesome.

The Strutt Parker site often has some absolute gems on. Did you see the other hall that was on there last summer, not far from the Chillingham Estate?? Think it was about £15M.

I think this thread has finally brought home to me the reality of the North-South divide.

Wales gives a lot for your money too.

12 bed
13 acres
...and a 3 bed cottage for the servants.

That would probably be Duncan Davisdson's place; LilBurn Estate's; he's some relation to the Queen and started selling off land and houses including the main hall.

Ah this one.

none in that price range in my area so i had to go further afield (5miles)...

not a big fan of these stately mansion type ones...a bit too pompous and ostentatious for my liking...also not a big fan of dated floral carpets and sofas.

for just under 1m this is nice
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-36038131.html
for 1.25m this isnt bad
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-27959256.html?premiumA=true
this one is ok as well
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-13748343.html

this is under budget leaving enough to be able to get at least 2 range rovers...but i like it for the exposed brickwork inside...no need for wallpapering or painting!!

Didn't know he'd sold up. isn't he Camilla's BiL? I know Prince Charles was up there quite a bit.

You can get this in Whitley bay,

150k to do it up

I'm sure the tower was for sale too but I may be wrong. He did sell of a lot or property though.

Can't remember what the link is to the Royal, I thought it was distant cousin but may be wrong. But yes friendly with Charles one of his daughters was the Bridesmaid for his wedding to Dianna.

Nothing on at a million in my village (Farnbough Village) most are either comfortably under, or £2m+ (Farnborough Park)

I'd probably just buy this one for 700k and spend the rest on bikes, coke and hookers.

Did I mention that there are great mountain bike trails from the door? Only two acres, double stables block and a garage though.

Near my office (Farringdon area in London), 1 million pounds buys a 2 bedroom flat.

Northwood again:

Conincidentally, the Good Life post above immediately follows a Northwood house - and Northwood is where the Good Life was actually filmed (not Surbiton)!

I have to move out 3 miles from our house to find anything between £600k and a million.

i'm not sure what that says about where we live.

If you head a bit further afield, £1.25 million will get you this, though technically it's three houses.

Following on from the Cambridge thread, I am actually pleasantly surprised; you can get a 3-bed detached property near the centre for £850k. Although a few miles out you can get a nice 6 bed with triple garage and swimming pool, or an equestrian centre!

If you count yourself amongst not only the haves but the have-yachts, I guess you could find enough change down the back of the couch to buy this crummily-decorated beach shack and spend a few bob doing it up.

It's odd looking at North/South (forgeting London for a moement, that's different) houses arround £100k and £1million.

I reckon comparable houses in Reading and Middlesbrough are about 3-4x difference in price. But once you get over £300k the difference shrinks raplidly. £1million in the Chilterns is proabbly only 25% cheaper on the Yorkshire Moors.

Seems like wherever you are there's a consistent ammount of consistently rich people. It's the average to poor demographic that fluctuates.

Granite blocks, I'd rather have that than some render.

Loving that, bit different for Aberdeen, while keeping the granite thing.

While I'm North East born and bread, half the family is from Ireland & we keep looking at property there. Franklins is the equivalent of Strutt & Parker in Donegal. 6 years ago you'd struggle to find anything for less than €300k, today it's rather different:

A bit in-between here. Access to Manchester + airport and close to footballer territory keeps it from being properly sensible, but 1m still buys you these 2:

People aren't aware of numbers that high in Newport, let alone spend that much on a house.

4 bed house in a gated community!

Gated community house

This is rural Cheshire. Why the hell do you need a gated community?

Probably more at risk from the badgers in the woodlands and TB

Slightly over the budget but this is Roger Moore's (James Bond) old house about 1.5 miles from me.
