Im after some flooring for my home gym, 2m x 2m. Gym specific flooring is a small fortune so can anyone suggest a suitable alternative?

Thanks

This stuff is great, but you need to shop around to get it cheaper, I got 4m x 1.25m x 20mm for just over 50 quid a couple of years ago, try builders merchants or flooring specialists.

The other main option is stable matting, but when I looked it wasn't that cheap (I think it is very cheap option in the US, nut not so much over here)

Heavy Duty Large Rubber Gym Mat Commercial Flooring 12mm Garage Flooring Natural

Anyway, I have 3 Arkmat 6x4ft sheets and they are superb. I think I actually got mine from an Equestrian supplier in the end, same stuff, and gives an indication of how tough they are.

There's often lots of 2nd hand gym flooring up for sale on FB crosscut groups. Our workshop is covered in 2nd hand gym flooring, I think it was £8 per 6' x 3' sheet.

I'm building out my home gym now that things are starting to come back into stock...

I have a couple of "gym tiles" from decathlon and to be honest they might just end up under each end of the barbell when deadlifting with iron plates. Far too squishy to squat on etc.

The amrican home gym reviewers/youtubes etc etc mention "horse stall mats" which means stuff like this:

will be considering myself this soon! I've seen the BigDug stuff recommended a few times, seems expensive but looks very cool!! Gets good reviews, wonder how tough it is though

If you've got an area where you're dropping weights then a movable lifting platform made of thick marine ply over the mats is a good shout.

Also good for having a solid footing underneath when squatting/deadlifting, etc. Think about the mechanics of lifting a decent weight whilst your feet are balancing on the best part of an inch of shoe foam and then the same again for flooring. The difference between doing the same exercise on a ply platform with lifting shoes/barefoot shoes/socks/bare feet is considerable.
