My beloved Olympus has finally given up the ghost, water got in I think, as the seals look pretty knackered.
So, what's the current pick of cameras in the water/snow/bike/life proof category?
Needs to be tough as old boots, and take good pictures in almost any condition. I've got a DSLR and a couple of older film SLRs (Yes, I still use 'em!)
This one will be used on bike, snorkelling, skiing, sailing, and anything else I can throw it at/at it.
Thanks!
Shameless bump, now the road race is over! ๐

I've got an old Finepix XP which has been pretty robust and works well for out on the bike/running etc. It has survived umpteen drops and even my kids taking photographs in the pool at centreparks.
Also cheap enough that I don't get paranoid about using it properly - i.e. taking it with me if the weather is rubbish or trail is a bit dicey...
Maybe worth looking at the more modern version (XP30 I think)?
I liked my old Olympus muji too but my current Panasonic Lumix lotsanumbersnletters Is a step up. I'm not a photographer as such, more a point and shoot type. The GPS and altimeter functions are not something I've used but most cameras these days seem to have functions that are not necessary for most of us. However, it's light enough for its robustness. Sits neatly in the pocket of my baggies without hindering my pedalling. Has worked on underwater snorkling trips without leaking. Has been dropped a couple of times. Hasn't been skiing though. Does what it's supposed to very well.
The latest mju (TG1?) looks pretty nice. Much better lens than is usually found on tough cameras. Not tried it though.

Yes, that's the one. As I say it's had some exposure to fairly rough conditions - I am working in the Middle East - and has been faultless so far. Occasionally the auto focus picks up on the background, more so with action photos if I haven't selected the sports mode. But, I get far more hits than misses.
Thanks, Angus. Appreciated. Will go and have a butcher's at these two options in more detail! (Then pick one up on next trip to the Far East!)
I like my Lumix DMC-FT20. Its the cheaper version of the FT4, plus its a bit smaller and lighter. I think the main difference is it doesn't have GPS, plus a slightly smaller zoom lens.
I've not tried it in proper rough conditions yet, but it's fine with a bit of rain.
