Hard core comic book following.....FX are awesome.....one the best fights scenes EVER, up there with the lobby scene from Matrix....plus the chic is WAY hotter than Trinity!!
But the big blue dude walking aronud for half the film with his wanger out is a little off puting....
Def worth a watch though !
Depends - if you're Alan Moore then no, if you are a hard core fan of the comic probably no.
If you're unaware of the comic watch the opening credits & it should grab you.

Its pretty naff, I don't mind if a film is just entertainment for entertainments sake, but I found the characters in it just irritating.
I found it hard work to be honest and certainly wouldn't describe it as a great film but not the worst either.
I think it was rather too long and indulgent but there were some cool effects

I thought it was terrible i saw the extended/directors cut and it just wouldn't end!
Some bastard told me it was a documentary before I went in which made things really confusing.

i last read the graphic novel maybe 20-25 years ago, and went to see the film with no real expectations. i found it quite enjoyable tbh. not the best film ever, but still decent. then again, i'm a total sucker for sci-fi, great or shit.
Could be a great film, amazing special effects, good story and characters ruined by all the arty bollocks blue guy rubbish that makes the film too long.
bought the directors cut, watched it quite a few times, love it! Great film. Agree the lady is very fetching. 😳

I got bored about half way through and sent it back to Lovefilm.
Not much happens, and I didn't care enough about what did happen.
i think it's great - and I've read/ like the comic too - although I'm not a major geek
I do seem to have a "thing" for ladies in tight stretchy costumes though
I thought it was rubbish.

So there you have it - the resounding STW film critique.
you might like it, you might not, depends on how much beer you drink during it.
Personally I liked it, but I like stuff like comic book movies.

I thought it was awful, very dull which is sad because I quite liked the comic books. I just didn't care what happened next to be honest and I've no idea what did because I turned it off.
The start is ace . . . .
Gradually throughout it, got less and less inthralled, some really good bits . . .
. . . . but the end is pretty poor!
Looks good though, worth a watch.

Just accept that you are watching a comic and the characters are suitably larger than life and you'll enjoy it.
Significant that two of the worst reviews come from DrRS**** and nobtwidler. Would I take any notice of an opinion of a couple of dipsticks with usernames like that? Christ no. I liked it, I thought it was a good version of the comic, which I bought when it first came out, along with V for Vendetta, which Alan Moore also hates, and is also a very good version of the comic. Watch it, it's on tv and will cost you nothing but some time, and it's infinitely preferable to most of the execrable trash served up on a Saturday evening. I saw it I the cinema, and got my money's worth. Ignore the critics, watch and make your own mind up.
I thought it dragged pretty badly. Couldn't get into the feel of it, really.
I think it was quite good, but not great. I bought the DVD, but after watching it once haven't been tempted to sit through it again.
Much prefer Sin City, V For Vendetta and 300.
I actually quite liked it. It got panned by the critics which always makes me a little more interested in seeing a film.
Its an OK film as long as you can suspend your disbelief. It actually made me want to read the graphic novel which, believe me, is far more indulgent and long winded than the film. I think the film is a pretty good adaptation.
As for the ending, well thats how the story ended in the comic so the film makers were kind of stuck with including it. I think they did it quite well and made it a bit sharper.
I enjoyed it, wasn't perfect but wasn't awful. Thought it was quite funny that Alan Moore hated it so much, considering that the big change at the end made more sense than his version, getting rid of the bloody stupid pirates was just common sense, and most of the other issues of the film seemed to come from being slavishly loyal. I'm sure in his head it's a travesty but I don't see it.
Then again I thought the comic was pretty over-rated too.

I thought that in some ways it was slavishly devoted to the comic but in trying to copy so many of its scenes and so much of its look it seemed to completely miss the original's feel (or at least what I got out of the comic). Also the director is way more obsessed with violence than the comic was. If it's a fight then there's going to be close-ups and slow-mo whenever a punch is landed or a bone is broken.
The ending makes more sense than the comic's but I have heard arguments as to why the batshit crazy "huh?" ending in the comic actually makes more sense in a demented way. Cutting some of the extra details, such as the pirates, makes sense cinematically where there's barely enough time for the main plot but in the comic they all helped build up the story's tone (plus the whole pirates thing is an important metaphor for one character's arc).
I generally think that the movie would appeal most to someone who's a superhero fan but who either doesn't know the original Watchmen comic or isn't very attached to it.
It was alright but I'd have liked to see them have a go at the ending in the comic book, however messy it turned out.
Great film. I must admit I watched it when it first came onto Sky and I wasn't impressed but I watched it again and then bang, the penny dropped and it's a very very impressive film. I didn't like Pulp Fiction when I first saw that but now it's definitely one of my all-time favourite films.

There will be worse things to watch on Saturday night thats for sure BUT you don't have to sit in front of the TV Its Saturday night after all loads of better things to do!

That makes it sound even more appealing! Although not as appealing as The Saturday Morning Watchmen!
I liked the graphic novel and I liked the film - I thought the changes the film made were necessary. You always have to trim and tweak as there's stuff that will work in one medium that won't work in another. I liked the V for Vendetta film too though, so Moore and Moore purists would probably quite like to set me on fire.

Enjoyed 'Watchmen' but didn't think much of 'V for Vendetta' - that chap in the mask was an irritating little twerp...
personally, I've never seen a good graphic novel turned into a film better than "Ghost World". Really underrated adaptation I reckon.
Over hyped, over long but not complete crap.
It does contain a cracking quote from the Rorschach character just after he's dunked a prisoner into the deep fat fryer.
