...or just quite good at playing on peeps naivety and fear.
Just received the following complete with a dodgy attachment (no i did not attempt to open it blah blah blah)
hello
My name is Peter Kruse. I represent a company csis.dk, we are struggling
with hackers for many years already. We found out that you sent a virus
disguised as an ordinary letter and now they want to steal your money.
File in the attachment of the letter to remove viruses from your
computer. Please treat it carefully this grupa stole more than a USD
10000000.
Write the result on my tweeter https://twitter.com/peterkXXX
Whats the most blatant/laughable/funny fishing [s]attack[/s] attempt you've had?
(that there twitter is increasingly used as a command and control facility)
Very stupid or very clever
It could readily be either. There's a logic to sending out intentionally poor spam, because it filters out the people who are likely to go "hang on a minute" further down the line. The spammer doesn't have to waste any real actual time on you just to find out that you're not going to fall for it. Whereas if you're gullible enough to fall for something that lame, you're probably exactly the sort of person that'll think "well, we've already paid x and it's only another y" and keep sending them money for "release fees" and whatever crap they make up next.
Hadn't thought about the natural/self selection bit. Good point.
Nobody believes when I email them either.
