I'm more concerned that I don't seem to be able to report the post.  Just because you can do/say something doesn't mean you should.

HP can't even make a functioning printer, let alone control the weather.

I'm sure the chemtrail/cloud seeding nuts are having a field day, but I suspect there are easier ways to off someone if it's really necessary.

You remember those orcas attacking small boats near Gibraltar, last year?

Orcas aren't real.

A freaky coincidence like this is manna from heaven for the conspiracy nut jobs.

My closest near death experience on a bike came on that road the jogger was killed on. You'd think that straight roads with clear sight lines would be safer but quite the opposite compared to other places I've lived.

Some of the comments on this thread might be seen as quite insensitive by any relatives.

Conspiracy theories aside, I’m really struggling to come to terms with how a micro burst can sink a boat of that size unless there’s some kind of manufacturing defect. In general most sinkages occur due to loss of keel.

Go read the thread on Sailing Anarchy about it...

The boat had a fricking huge mast (50m+ ) and a 4m draft, large glazed openings and as a 12 person or less boat was not designed past certain heel angles etc etc

The windage from a bare mast mixed with a massive few minute storm, plus possibility of the boat 'tripping' on its anchor = crazy forces.

Even if well built, even if the crew were trying to respond, they may have been overwhelmed.

There's a *rumor* someone's home CCTV caught a good portion of things, and severe heeling to sunk was less than a minute...

And I'll go look on YouTube, but I've seen shore CCTV of a storm in I think NZ where a 40' catamaran weighing a few tons was flipped backwards and behind it a 40m yacht has it's spreaders in the water for a few minutes before the storm stops....

Orcas aren’t real.

It's not a black and white issue.

IIRC the yacht sank at around 5 am - also potentially a contributing factor to the outcome.

It’s not a black and white issue.

That’s just click bait…

The latest I have read is that the mast did not snap off. It looks like the yacht was blown over, and water entered through open windows and doors, which had been left open as the weather was hot.

The hull was swamped by the water entering and sank. The yacht is lying on its side in 50m of water, otherwise intact.

It would be very hard to control the weather, but easier to compromise the stability of the yacht by interfering with ballast, then hoping for a gust, but actually getting an extreme weather event.

Usually the simplest cause is the correct one.

The yacht had a lifting keel. It was up.

The yacht was a badly designed vanity project like most 'super'(stupid name) yachts. Massive deck doors, huge heavy superstructure and a massive mast that was basically a cock substitute.

A real super yacht, so basically most sub 40ft sail craft would have been knocked down and sprung back up again with minimal water ingress even if all hatches had been open.

Harsh yes but that's the truth. Such a shame and a waste of life but the superyacht industry needs to look at itself.

Still suspicious it sank. Windows were 3cm thick so it must have been built to withstand much worse. Very sad for all involved.

I've just had to wrestle with an HP Plotter and was thinking exactly the same thing. I'd sink HP if I could.

The yacht had a lifting keel. It was up.

It seems it is a lifting centreplate on the bottom of a near full length keel. It can be seen on the plan and photos. And the plater, while adding to stability at rest, can (as any dinghy sailor gybing will tell you) can add to the 'tripping' effect if the boat is moving or loaded sideways. Like in a sudden storm.

Let's wait for the MAIB to put out a report.

I've seen this in a few places but struggling to get my head round it. Would expect a modern yacht that size to have aircon throughout and everything kept closed as a result

Now confirmed by “a source close to the family” that Mike Lynch’s body has been recovered.

As someone who was acquainted with Mike many, many years ago (before he was rich), I am just sad that such a clever bloke is dead. He was someone who managed to make money out of his own ideas and brainpower and he should be celebrated for that.

I think MAIB will issue a report on due course.. There's so much unknown at this point that the respectful thing is to wait for that report.

videos of the dives to the yacht have been leaked, all the relevent hatches were closed. Looking like a crappy design was a leading cause of the sinking.

Again, too early and not enough clear information as yet. MAIB report will bring this all together and that is the one source for all speculation....

(I am clearly new here....)
