I still remember OILRIG from chemistry class.

Oxidation is Loss, Reduction in Gain. Something to do with electrons apparently.

"I before E except after C." Only problem with this is it's complete rubbish, there are so many common exceptions (science, vein, species, weird, eight, policies, I could go on) that you may as well not bother. Stupid, stupid rule.

It works for a lot more cases in the form, "when the vowel sounds like 'eee', it's I before the E except after C."

Thought it was "of" (to mean multiplication for reasons which escape me)? Definitely not order, though.

Not universal, but the diving buddy check is BCD, weights, releases, air & final ok. Sometimes given as Bangkok Women Really Are Fellas.
