The pavement round here was replaced a couple of years back, really nice patterned blocks. There's an access panel which was also paved, and at some point it's been removed and replaced put back-to-front so the patter doesn't align. It gives me the gyp every time I walk past it.

My thought for this thread was "things that make you go argh" rather than this specific example.

Ha! Yeah, I’m rather OCD about things like that; nearly forty years working in print and publishing where precision is paramount rather enhances it. I was trying to think of an example, and I’ve just remembered one from my last job:

A strip of a cobbled street near my office was dug up 6 months ago to put i services to some new flats.  I was convinced they were going to patch it with tarmac when they eventually relaid it.  I was pleasantly surprised when I saw them laying cobbles one day.  BUT... Rather than using the cobbles they took up, they've used different ones which don't match all the others.

Yeah, when Chippenham High Street was redone and pedestrianised, the road part was tarmacced, as it would be open to traffic at night, and the footpaths either side laid with York Stone slabs. So what do contractors do when they have to lift the slabs? Put Tarmac in their place! It might be if the slab breaks, but they shouldn’t be breaking the slabs! [img] [/img]

Not worse than slightly posh housing / business parks where the 'give way' line at junctions is made up a stone kerb.

Looks great when it's new.  Potential to KSI a cyclist or even motorbike once the tarmac has sagged an inch in a few years wen they turn across it in the dark.

I reckon there is a small cabal of highways maintenance workers around the country who have the the worlds best drives and patios made up from the block pavers and posh slabs they took up and replaced with tarmac.

Could there actually be black marked in them? When an order comes in the just find an unsuspecting high street, pretend to do some work but just replace the pavers with tarmac and sell them on?

I think I may be onto something here...... 😉

Its on a sash window and I expect at some point it had fake Georgian astragals on it so the text was spaced around them and then later the astragals have been removed (or fallen off)

Actually - heres a good one.

Have a look at the door of Number 10 Downing Street. It's not a '10' on the door. (in fact when you image search it some images, particularly ones from the Stock Photo agencies have retouched the image and have 'improved' it to  erroneously show it with a '10')
