My LG lcd has gone strange and I can only watch BBC1 without sound ? Unplugged some game headphones and it seems to have 'shorted' something. It's maybe, just, 3 years old. Do I 'just buy a new one' or TRY to get it repaired ? I live in the Brighton area if anyone happens to know a shop to recommend...

All about cost, innit?
If you do buy another, don't be so daft with this cheap Korean rubbish, get yourself a Samsung. 😉

True, my son payed £80 for an estimate eventually paying £200 odd AND it's STILL not right ! Fixed the initial problem but it's got another one now. Looking like a new one...anyone REALLY like BBC1 with no sound ???

was it 2nd hand when you bought it? would you expect it to break after three years? if no then get on to the place you bought it from. I think SOGA might be on your side here.

Modern TVs have few serviceable parts inside so unless it is a simple problem (ie a speaker wire falling off) then you would be better off replacing with something with a 5 year warranty. But it would be difficult to find someone who could actually diagnose it and repair it anyway.

My dad used to repair TVs back in the day of valve sets and could identify a single component on a circuit board that was at fault and take it out/replace it.

It was some 25 years ago that those sort of sets started to die a death and even he wouldn't have attempted a repair on a modern set because it would be a waste of time and effort.

Same goes for most white goods now - they are all disposable.

Is it only that one channel with no sound?

BTW - have you tried pushing the headphone plug in and out a few times and wiggle it around etc.

Replace "headphone plugs" with something else and that advice can work equally well for lovemaking.

Have you googled it for your model to see if it's a known issue? Managed to fix my Samsung by replacing a few capacitors inside (£12 inc. buying a soldering iron) but people were paying £100-£200 for TV repair places to do it. With yours it might be something much less easily repaired so you could be looking at over £200 and then you're well into "better to replace than repair" territory but will be too late by then unless you can get a fixed cost repair quote foc.

Yeah, and similarly when I am lovemaking my wife prefers to watch BBC1 with the sound on 🙂

Bloody typical. Get home to a dishwasher in it's death throes.

Pretty certain it is the pump due to the constant grinding noise on filling.

On Espares a replacement is £180 and fitting cost (or my own hassle) on top.

New machine £240.

Hmmm...

It's a TV, not some bird, can we not treat it with a bit of respect please??? 😯 🙄 😛

Does your tv have a digital out - my Sony has an optical digital out and seems to output everything on it, even if it came in via analogue (like the Wii).

You could then plug it into your hifi, assuming you have a DAC.

get yourself a Samsung

recommended a samsung to my sister based on thinking they were reliable.

a few days after the 1 year warranty expired it developed a large patch at the corner and another in the bottom centre of the screen with no picture. The patches receeded a bit after some time, but still are prominent.

Plus I think Samsung picture processing is pants.

Wierd, my LG started playing funny buggers last night. The on/off switch doens't appear to want to work consistently [stays on] but not as annoying as yours. LG has a 2 year warranty uinless you bought it from John Lewis who have 5 years. You got any paper work?
