I've never really done beach holidays but since the arrival of little one we're looking for something slightly more sedantry, my moon-on-a-stick criteria are:
- Destination we can fly direct from Aberdeen from (Malta, Tenerife, Alicante, Dalman, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Malaga, Palma, Reus, Corfu)
- Beach in walking distance
- probably some kind of self-catered affair (we normally airbnb)
- wife stipulates access to a pool is necessary
- characterful town/village with nice restaurants/cafes
- nice walks, interesting things to go and look at (castles/ruins etc...)
Out of the above destinations I've only been to Malaga, did a road trip and visited Ronda and Cordoba. Somewhere like Ronda but close to the beach would be perfect!
I d go for somewhere like el portet, moraira but it will cost you as everyone wants the same thing. Look on the portals but reckon on 2k + per week for a nice villa with pool. Money no object i d go to formentera, but the same villa would be 5k pw. You get what you pay for though, plenty of competition keeps standards high.
