I have many coloured friends

Are you Michael J Fox? have you come from the 1970s?

Anyway...

I had a nice swim earlier, and no Binners, I din't need any armbands. How incredibly rude to suggest that I would. 😥

Lazy no good thieving Basxards you see in and around
the streets every day in London and thats a Fact

This may be true... but why are they like this? What causes this? Why weren't they doing it 5 years ago?

All important questions that might just make for a discussion...

20.56 Victoria Ward in Peckham writes:

Just watching a group of teenagers ransack Iceland in Peckham. They're running in and out with armfuls of food and drink. Not a policeman in sight. Someone on the street is yelling "make sure you get Frebreeze".

True regarding unemployment But they seem to fight each other from different villages

There used to be plenty of fighting between the villages in north Shrops when I was younger and we all had jobs (and often worked together). Unemployment or poverty aren't the reasons.

I don't think anyone has said its justified. However here are reasons why its happening. riots do not just happen - it needs the conditions to be right and thats what needs to be addressed. Read Scarman

The real tragedy here is that race relations between blacks and whites has just been put back another 20 years. It will be even harder for young black men to get jobs.

Hora - don't you realise?

Heavy handed policing causes riots

Well, yes they do. Just not these ones. What's your point caller?

atlaz - Member

Kimbers - it's not an excuse. Our youth club was closed when I was a kid (I'm from Hull so I think it counted as an urban area with significant deprivation and unemployment in the 80s). Nobody rioted as a result of it

.

Try and distinguish between "excuses" and "contributory factors".

fighting between villages has always happened. Gloucestershire, has Dog Pie, and bear and the FoD, as examples of inter community rivalry.

Looting in Peckham too.

Apparently they've taken half-price cracked ice, miles & miles of carpet tiles, TVs, deep freeze, David Bowie LPs...

TJ - I dont think I need educating into social inequalities. I feel I have a fairly rounded view, and appreciate the conditions that presented themselves in the 1980's. The Scarman report is a valuable document, and yes I have read a fair chunk of it... however people have a simple choice between right and wrong.

it has been implied on this thread that the actions of the people out there tonight have been, in someway, spurred on by discontent, deep seated issues in the fabric of society, and that roiting (like that in the 1980's) will spark change in society for the good. That viewpoint, imo is misplaced.

But it seems that morality is much more strictly enforced through the rule of law on the bottom of society than those at the top, so the choice is easier for some than others.

I have to say I felt the Tottenham MP fella coming out saying the riots were a disgrace was definitely a plus and hopefully more like minded community leaders will do similar.

As an interjection, Bill Cosby's social commentary is interesting I find... [url=

education
FOR THE AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT- I am not suggesting race is at the root of it- what BIll says could equally be said of white trash /neds / losers of whatever background. 😯

If they are blaiming twitter and facebook why can't they just shut them down until 48 hours after the riots finish?

Simple question, who are these "community leaders"

why should they be listened to? who do they represent?

All too often you have self selection going on, groups who appoint themselves claiming to serve a community when all they do is serve a small section of the community.

No. no matter how f***ed up some tards make things, thats not the answer. One small step to:

Vodafone Group PLC and France Télécom SA, facing heat for complying with the Egyptian government's order to pull the plug on their networks last week, said Thursday that Egypt's government forced its way onto their mobile networks to send text messages directly to the country's people.

Gotta agree with Houns' post of a couple of pages back. Unfortunately it was overlooked as it seemed to contain common sense.

Also heard MC Donalds at Canningtown been recked and also
EastHam high street shops Argos and Primark have been targeted
amongst other shops in the high street.

We don't have any water cannons in England Wales or Scotland. The only ones we have readily available are in NI.

CS is the answer.

a lot of what is going on is based on the impression they can get away with it

the police have their own issues in the basics of policing these incidents
http://www.ukpoliceonline.co.uk/index.php?/topic/45255-gmp-governor-fails-shield-run-so-takes-force-to-tribunal/

also not helped by it being the new spectator sport

If Diane Abbott hardly the darling of the establishment is saying it's just criminality and not picking up all the interviewers offers of the usual suspects for "excuses" then I think their is something in it

there needs to a modern version of this

"Our sovereign Lord the King chargeth and commandeth all persons, being assembled, immediately to disperse themselves, and peaceably to depart to their habitations, or to their lawful business, upon the pains contained in the act made in the first year of King George, for preventing tumults and riotous assemblies. God save the King."

if you don't go home, you get pulled in and the justice cycle starts whether you are a rioter or just someone getting in the way

failing to police effectively leads to an impression that you can go anywhere and loot with impunity, all societies have rules and accepted behaviors, failure to police them destroys the society

as for the detailed root cause analysis and the potential solutions that needs people who are brighter than "two short thick planks" to look at it with an open mind. The solutions are probably harder than ever as the jobs market has forever changed due to the open labour market within the EU.

4x1 they are looting on the Purley Way, CS gas would be useless - they are simply moving to where there's no police.
