Ah well, at least Scottish independence is guaranteed when BoJo takes over. At least we have that silver lining

I imagine who would have them is more the issue. The anti tory vitriol from most other quarters would mean switching to another main stream party would be near impossible even if they suddenly started spouting marx in cabinet meetings.

I'd bet anything you like that in the highly unlikely event that 12 Tories walked, enough to give Labour a chance of forming a coalition Gov with the LDs, Greens, Plaid and the SNP they'd be welcomed with open arms anywhere they fancied. I'd equally bet that the SNP and Labour would put aside their differences to shaft the Tories.

114 votes?

Is there that many morons in the Tory party? Who knew..

I suppose we can take some heart from the fact 199 voted against him, and and the favourite rarely wins this sort of thing.

The sad thing is that he doesn't need to win, assumed all 199 won't take Boris as second choice, he's pretty likely to make the final 2.

It's a funny old world where the (soon to be ex) Chancellor of the Exchequer says he'd be prepared to vote with the opposition to stop No Deal.

This is increasingly looking like the only roadmap out of economic Armageddon. But Parliament and even those Tories with common sense will bottle it, as usual.

No chance, Corbyn/Momentum are toxic plus it's hard to imagine either Labour or the SNP will be willing to shoulder the blame for Brexit and save the Tory party from extinction.

It wouldn't need as many as 12 defectors so if it was feasible it would have happened yonks ago.

Any port in a storm and all.

Really it just means 114 tory MPs think they're more likely to have a job under Boris than anyone else in the race, eg, their constituents are more likely to vote Boris than anyone else.

I don't think, after the last few years, that anyone really doubts 18% of the UK population are stark raving mad so those who supported Boris probably aren't far wrong.

You only need to look at the anti tory frothing on here to find that doubtful and, (I could be wrong) I doubt many of the frothers are even card carry members of the LDs or Labour.

They might be accepted into the membership but they're sure as heck not getting nominated or returned as MPs.

A lot of people HATE the tories, wouldn't wee on them if they were on fire hate, and that's stoked and used a lot at local level.

I can however imagine BJs NI in Brexit policy being enough to get sin fein to take their seats long enough for a no confidence vote.

Good luck with that! The SNP are fiercely anti-Brexit and pro-EU. Corbyn and his cabal are the polar opposite and all for 'respecting the will of the people' and delivering Brexit. He doesn't give a toss about dissenting voices within his own party, so he certainly won't even entertain compromising with other parties

Agree. Tory MPs despise him. The *only* reason he's getting support from MPs is because they think he can win and save their seats. (According to the Times story this week by a landslide.)

Maybe that logic means that potentially every MP who is willing to stomach Boris has already voted for him and he'll pick up minimal votes from the candidates who drop out. So potentially he could still fail to end up in the final two. There's still hope.

Didn't they say the same about strong and stable May?

Maybe that's what the 199 who didn't vote for Boris are thinking.

I think we might be amazed at what people will accept to get what they want.

I can't say I envy them at this point.

They're pretty much being given the choice of voting for captain ahab, Don quixote, sancho panza, tybalt, lady macbeth, lear's Edmund and for contemporary reference, ramsay Bolton.

Who would you choose to save your skin and keep you in a job, knowing if your horse looses the winner will know fine well you didn't support them.

I'm expecting stalin esque purges of the party who ever wins.
