My clearest recollection is Gary Glitter, I think it's because he was on regularly for a period of time when I used to go round to Rebecca's house to watch it, if you know what I mean.

David Essex was a popular choice when I was at school.

However Elton John was my absolute favourite. Showman of the highest order.

In the TOTPs Gary Glitter I specifically recall, I'm sure there was a motorbike on stage, I was only 6 tho.

UFO doing Doctor Doctor. Camera zooms in on guitarist for the solo, who has his flies undone.
Sparks doing This Town..... Real did you see event at school the next day.
Similar thing for Talking Heads Once In A Lifetime with the Div Dancing.

Got a bit lost in 10cc for a moment there. Funny how even just a few chords can bring stuff back. Anyway...

Very young would be Alvin Stardust, Mud, T.Rex, Sweet

Then when older and really into music Stranglers, Blondie, PIL, Department S, Martha and the Muffins, Smiths anytime when John Peel was hosting.

TOTP provided about one track a month I wanted to see it was essential viewing but now you realise it was awful ๐Ÿ˜†

I really like Dr Feelgood now, but I don't recall them as a kid, probably got them mixed up with Dr Hook. Like Pigface, I vaguely recall a period where Punk bands were charting, but you were lucky to see anything on TOTPs. I recall it being a bit special to see them, I was barely in my teens tho, so maybe wrong. I really miss all that.

TJ, I had a quick look on youtube, but didn't find anything. I thought it was 'my gang' which would be the obvious, but that track appears to be 1970, which would make me 3-4 yo and unlikely to recall. I'm thinking it was more like 73-74, when I was around 6 yo, unless 'my gang' was released or my memory is a bit confused.

Bob is doing an OGWT series on R2, I listened to it last night. Was interesting to hear him talk on how they tried to get a balance (and stay relevant) in the late 70s, between old long haired hippies and new Punks. At some point they dropped the 'Old Grey' to try and stay relevant, but later accepted it was more than just in the title. They talk about The Tube and other stuff coming in and filling the gap.

Bohemian Rhapsody, by Queen, the first ever pop video a fantastic group, and a great lead singer, sadly no longer with us.

Elton John, semed to feature quite often, along with Wizzard, slade, the sweet, and many more camp rock bands.
