Going down to Wimborne next week to visit the outlaws, whats to do in the area (non biking related sadly) jsut me the boss and our 13yr old, any help greatly appreciated. Going to have a look at the new forest for a bit of walking and lulworth cove looks worth a trip, what else for the troops to do?
Monkey World, Tank Museum, Durdle Door, Beaches, Canoeing on the river from Wareham, Corfe Castle, Brownsea Island, Portland, The Swannery, Coasteering ... probably loads more but should give you a few ideas
Nice ride on castlemain trailway then through upton park to poole
MOnkey world and tank museum close by, if ur going to lulworth make sure you go to durdle door too
Lots of riding and bridleways around wimbourne
oh, just read the no riding bit...no BBB for you then!
cream teas are loverly though and ice cream!! go here, very near to wimbourne (easy bike ride....if you were taking it!) http://www.barford-icecream.co.uk/
My lawn needs mowing if you're free one afternoon.
Watch Nuts in May before you go. All the Dorset ideas you'll ever need.
Rocketdog - Is there really a decent amount of riding from Wimbourne? My folks live in Ferndown and we visit several times a year, and Im always tempted to explore that area, but always end up going to the Purbecks as thats more familiar to me.
Do you know of any websites with published routes etc? I'd be keen to explore further.
Tank Museum &/or Monkey World - Bovington. Both much better than they sound (really really good).
Lulworth a bit overrated - try Winspit or Dancing ledge instead followed by a visit to one of the best pubs in the world, the Square and Compass at Worth Matravers.
Drive to Corfe, walk to Swanage over Nine Barrow Down and Ballard Down - lunch in Earthlights Cafe then get a steam train back.
Get a ferry from Poole Quay to Brownsea Island.
Get a ferry from Mudeford Quay, walk round Hengistbury Head, then get the ferry back and buy a pint of prawns to eat while offspring catches crabs with a handline off the quay (do 13 year olds do that anymore - I did!)
Or nearer to Wimborne, Kingston Lacy House is nice and Badbury Rings is a good place to walk.
Or Go Ape! at Moors Valley Country Park
Or on a Tuesday Salisbury has a really good market + an amazing Cathedral + good places to eat (such as Snells Tea Rooms
I could go on....
no websites i know of, but the tourist info has a few good guides, i was there last week and did a couple of rides, 10 and 15 miles, bridleway and heathland with bits of quiet lane in between, nothing technical but all good fun
whitesheet and Horton area (horton Tower in pic) is rideable easily from the town

and i'm sure for a full day out you could join this with a canford heath ride too
Lots of options there, thanks people.
Rusty sorry mate, but my backs playing up otherwise......
Cheers Rocketdog
If you're that way inclined the rock climbing is pretty fantastic down there...
drive to somerset....... ๐

That would be Wiltshire, however. (And the market's also held on a Saturday, not just Tuesdays.)
Things to do in Dorset: I wouldn't bother with Lulworth Cove, it's depressing. I'd go to Swanage, via the toll ferry for fun. There are some interesting walks around Swanage and a very good fish and chip shop.
And eat some knobs, why not? Just not the kind of ones you find at Studland.

What on earth is depressing about Lulworth Cove? It's one of my favourite places, indeed I was there yesterday.
If you mean, it's getting a little commercialised I can agree to an extent, but far less so than most other tourist honeypots. Okay, the cost of the parking is depressing, but you can park for free by the general store five minutes up the hill.
How out of breath i get walking up the hill to Durdle Door is depressing!
