My agent in Syria got rich by landing the contract to clear up the brass shell cases after one particular scrap (!) with the Israelis. He kept a few back and had them filled with pitch and engraved beautifully by Damascus metal workers, the pitch was then melted out and the case used as a lamp base of desk pen holder. He handed me one with the words: "This is a Syrian army artillery shell case.... the.... um.... front half went to Israel."
