Wonder if that's the first olympic flame that's not actually a love flame.
I jest, it's pretty cool though.
Its now October
Ah so that’s why they lit the big F off bonfire thing then, cause it does get chilly in Paris in October
Ah, Celine's on, surely the end is nigh?
Stop the small boats.
a 7m wide gas burning ring.
Greta is displeased.
My wife said it's like one of those FB videos that go on for half your life but never have a conclusion!
Let the games commence!
Wow... that was long...
Claire Balding "that was... Truly original"
Micheal Johnson "it was erm.. different..."
At least they let Celine's piano survive. Thought it was a goner for sure.
Nice to see her belt one out after all her difficulties. Not my cup of tea, but she's a trooper.
The inspiration behind the logo…
FFS I can’t get an image to load - Mrs Potato Head
Well that exceeded my tolerance for interpretative dance by about 90 minutes.
My main takeaway from this is if you want to create some atmosphere, hold the ceremony in a stadium with a crowd.
Oh and apparently they hoisted the Olympic flag up upside down.
Highlight - four sports icons looking vaguely seasick as they accompanied the flame up the river.
four sports icons
Get dressed up in your finest clobber and we'll make you wear a swim vest over the top.
Best bit for me was the minions stealing the mona lisa...........
Been pissing down all night - I hope the road is not too slippery for the ITT this afternoon. Be a shame if it just came down to bad luck.
I blame the Olympic committee they should demand games are prepared by someone creative, what happened to all the French Singers and use of language - What the hell has Snoop Dog got to do with France.
Statues of French women who fought against colonialism, followed by Gaga, Snoop and Minions.
Celine Dion knocked it out if the park but it took a reported $2M paycheck to get her.
Watching women's single scull. Question, do all the teams use standard equipment? I can see in sculling equipment could make a difference (and cycling).
Not standard equipment for rowing, but the speed differences between manufacturers is small and there is no alignment with particular nations as far as I know (unlike UK track cycling). If you are good enough to race at the Olympics, you'll have a queue of marketing guys keen to lend you a boat.
Well the misery guts are all complaining about how the ceremony disrespected christianity and supported LGBT+. So all good then.
So all good then.

I wouldn't have expected anything less from France.
A bit of culture, tradition, some unashamedly cheesy pop (plus some random US stars) and a good side helping of provocation. Some of it might have missed the mark or been rained off like the floating bmx ramps, but the parts that worked were fantastic; medal fabrication/notre dame, the Marseillaise, the Gojira opera revolution mashup, that horse and Celine Dion belting out Edith Piaf from the Eiffel tower.
Some stuff dragged on a bit (see what I did there) or was just way too French such as Phillipe Katherine as Dionysus on a platter singing Nu. Think Jarvis Cocker crossed with Neil Hannon and you're in the right neighborhood.
Hasn't dried up for the ITT. Looks dicey out there.
Slippery roundabouts!
USA rider (and her mechanic) having an absolute mare.
Hopefully the bike change reduces the chance of falling off.
Exciting race.
I think I'd be using a bike with full length mudguards!
Oooh. Anna Henderson fastest at time check 1. Stay upright!
Silver for Henderson. Great ride.
Nice silver medal for Anna and the GB team.
just switched over to catch the result - silver! But everyone 90s behind the winner, on a 30-something minute course? What was the trick, or just performance?
Great ride by Henderson and the other two in the top three. Australian is amazing!
Where the #### is the rugby sevens coverage?
Amazing atmosphere in those first rounds of games and now BBC coverage, at least I can't find it
They'd have probably been better off on mountain bikes in those conditions. I'm amazed anyone stayed upright
BBC are limited to one broadcast and one digital. One of the reasons I signed up for Discovery+, apart from the cycling, was they have every event live and on-demand.
That looks pretty bloody miserable out there on the TT course, just got in and switched onto it.
Edit: ooh, WvA on a front disc wheel! I knew he'd been trialling one...
I've just done that - offer of £3.99 a month at the moment instead of £6.99 for anyone interested (online - wasn't available through the Roku app)
Edit: Re: Discovery+
Josh Tarling ☹
Enjoying the canoe slalom 🙂
The coverage of the men’s tt is awful - constantly panning off the contenders for shots of buildings
