Debating the font on a web site? Seriously?

Go get yourselves some life people, before it runs out.

I don't like it much but it'll do

(I changed from Firefox to using Chrome recently and back on firefox it looks much better and is a different font - weird; I've never set a preference in either)

Can you change default fonts on Chrome?

(Chrome on left, FF on right)

For me, the actual text in the threads is ok, but the list of thread titles is a bit pale.

(This text I'm writing now is perfect.)

Hmm just getting the winter poll.

Debating the font on a web site? Seriously?

Most of the original comments were about reqdability but i guess we are going straight to popularity now.

It's fine for me on whatever I've read the forum from so far.

The font and text within individual threads is fine but the main front page forum bit is awful.

There's something about how it adapts to different display types that is ****ed, so something needs to be done about it.

It looks fine and dandy on my phone, great on my iPad and ok on my laptop, but on my 24" screen at work it looks utterly shit. Comic Sans actually looks better. Hey but what do I know, I've only got a million forums on the internet I can compare it to, which all look so much better.

However, there are so many more things wrong with the site that I'd prefer to see sorted! Especially the navigation to your last posts, who last posted on a thread and all the American shite spelling. I can just about live with the font, but if those things don't get sorted I'll be dumping Singletrack.

Er, soooo  TWIST!

See, now this proves that it's the adaptation thing that's wrong - the front page looks fine on my screen (maybe a bit too faint), whereas the inside threads font is the one that looks crap.

Twist. It looks awful. Too big, and no serifs.

It's only a step away from ComicSans.

Like the font, it's a probably 1pt to large on my phone if I was being fussy. And on the PC the input box font is too small.

Ooh - just done a zoom-out to 90% (ctrl-scrolldown) and it looks ok now. I'll keep it like this.

This is one of my favourite things - that people are so thick they don't get the irony of posting such a statement.

Stick - I quite like it, and have no issues reading it, even with flux enabled to kill the blue light from my screen when working late. Same applies on my phone.

and looking a bit more at it, the one in the posting box I prefer if a little bigger.

The REPLY TO title looks like it's double spaced - not in a good way same with the VERY BOLD thread title, it's OK we know it's the title it's at the top of the page, looks more like a basic attempt at using word Headings 😉

I don't mind the font but why oh why do winking designers have to use something other than black for lettering?

fonts fine, its the forum main page that needs a tweak for me.....

i agree it should be black, and same size as the font in the threads themselves.

It’s Gash with a capital G

Looks more like Verdana or similar to me, but I'm not a graphic designer or anything.

Thumbs up from me anyway. Looks great on PC.

It's not actually surprising that there's so many different answers in this thread - everyone sees something different! 😆

Now that the line-height/leading has been increased it's not too bad.
However there are more readable fonts out there, so it's a twist from me.

If we're throwing typographical terms about, I'd maybe play with increasing the kerning a touch, if that's possible.

Yep big difference between my work PC and my home MBP. Windows PC / Firefox looks better, but still both less readable than the old forum. I don't get the obsession with ridiculously large font sizes, I can only see five one line responses on a single page on a 1920x1080 monitor!

It's completely inconsistent between the front page (list of forum topics) at normal font size and then you click on a topic and get 'My first book' font size for 3 year olds?

Stick for me. Wasn't too sure to start with but it's grown on me over the past couple of days.

I really like the new look and as long as all the issues are getting sorted out elsewhere, which they seem to be, I'm more than happy.

As said up there somewhere ^^ I have far more important things to worry about than the font on a forum which I use.

The new font is horrible.

By no means the biggest problem with the forum though!

For me the colour contrast needs to be sorted - on the listing pages the text is so light there is no way it meets AA standards - it blends dreadfully with the white background.

EDIT: It looks better on a different monitor (on my MacBook Pro Retina it looks too light though).

Also - the text sizes seem all to pot to me.

Looks ok but needs more contrast. Not in the OP's original post but I miss the forum search. I used it loads.

Edit: Ignore that, just seen it at top of page. Not sure its as good as old search though.

For some, including me, the main forum index has a shade of blue.

Stick - "On my screen, using my browser and OS, with my eyes, it's perfectly readable everywhere, and gives a nice new fresh look to the site."

But for me, it's a Twist please, for the forum lists and body text. The reasons have already been done to death on multiple very boring threads, with some valuable, free, contributions from people with some professional experience in this area, and also some users experiencing issues with it. The body type in the forum has much improved with the tweaks made… but it's still using a lovely font for a purpose it is ill suited for.

Looks miniature on my PC, in the reply box. Looks different elsewhere.

Certainly doesn't look great. Appreciate you may be having a different experience to me, it's all over the shop.

Ah typographic terms eh? I think you mean tracking not kerning.

Don''t really care about the Font. The forum seems better, quotes and pics seem to work better again, so personally i'm happy. The font... get a grip guys, who cares.

Helvetica, Courier, Arial, Verdana, CMU and open dyslexic are all fonts which are recommended for people with dyslexia. Might be nice if this could be considered for the new design.

Yes eddie you are correct, as I said I'm no expert (only spent six months as a print sub-editor almost 20 years ago).

I just checked on my android mobile, and there, everything is bright, clear and nicely laid out. I like it! However, on my desktop, running chrome, the posts look good, and I like the font that I'm currently replying with, but the list of thread titles is way to faint.

I care. A correct body copy font increases legibility, enhancing the reading experience and making the forum a better place to engage with. There have been tests and research and everything...

Stick although it should be darker please. Also links should be in a stronger blue as they are hard to spot at the moment.

Also the 'you must be logged in to post' message should have a link to log in in it, innit?!

Overall I like the update! Viewing in chrome on an android phone.
