First line, Adrian Edmondson!

I'll say no more for the moment.

Just seen it myself, absolutely loved it! So many funny moments, from the very first scene it really set the tone. I preferred it to Force Awakens in fact. One thing though- how are they going to deal with Princess Leia not dying? They had already said that they never planned for her to be in episode IX, so that was a but weird...

You know the skinny weird Admiral bloke? His assistant, on the bridge of Snoke's ship.

He spoke the first line of the film.

Never noticed Ade either! Or for that matter Mrs K spotted that the wee lads broom force-jumped into his hand at the end, which i missed.

Jaw drop of the film was that light speed jump, was like the first time I saw the Star destroyer hit the Emperors ship in RoTJ.

Really enjoyed it, not as good as Rogue One, but better than ep7.

Pet or protein? Defiantly protein!

the Leia injured/poorly bit could have been achieved a bit better with a bump on the head or something, rather than the ludicrous Mary Poppins sequence.

That and when Ray is boarding the Falcon after her lovers tiff with Kylo they can still see each other, so it wasn't Snoook.

Some crazy love triangles going on too...

I loved:
The cruiser crashing into the fleet with the lightspeed jump
The bit where Rey threw her sabre to Kylo at the end of the fight and he just turned it on to take out the imperial guard behind him
Some of the Luke funny moments, e.g. after the bombardment when he brushed dust of his shoulder.
The reveal of Rey's parents.

Leia question is interesting. Maybe she'll just retire to the quiet life.

The reveal of Rey's parents

so when he said they were pikey traveller folk or something, you reckon that was the truth or he was just winding her up?

and did Luke die cos he was knackered? (cos I thought that happened to Wizards after casting really hard spells)

Truth, because the message was that ordinary people can have hidden force powers (like the kid at the end) and you don't have to be a Skywalker.

I think Luke expended all his force energy after hanging out with the hot young woman and thinking about her for too long while alone...

Saw it this morning, OK in places but its not something I would rush back to see unlike Rogue One.
Some nice set pieces, surprisingly funny in places with some of the Frist order officers getting the best lines (preparing to land now) but the dialog was a little clunky, yeh, I know its SciFi but 'spunk'.
Will be interesting to see where part 9 takes us after this though, thought that Snoke, for all his supposed power, didn't really seem that powerful in the end.

Suitability for 8 and 10 year old kids? They enjoyed the last one on dvd, wondering whether to take them to the cinema for this one.

Saw it a BFI Imax this morning.

I can't say I loved it, but I did enjoy it a lot - especially the cruiser lightspeed scene.

It seemed to be taking itself a lot less seriously - lots of snide jokes and (almost) asides which I enjoyed.

Edit: Also, Snoke reminds me of Daniel Craig. Which was offputting.

And a 2.5 hour runtime + ads and trailers if you get them. All of our local midnight screenings were straight in though.

The reveal of Rey's parents.

I'm not sure they've been revealed yet

Luke's death- what did he see when he was staring into the sun at the end? I could have sworn I saw a ship there- I thought it was one despatched by Kylo Ren to 'wipe out the islands', as he had said that they will do that a couple of scenes earlier

2 suns. A flashback to his yoof, in one of the most memorable film scenes like, ever.

I definitely spotted what looked like a ship in one of the suns

Overall very good.

Only minor gripes:

the need for a slapstick style scene. The horse type things racing through space vegas. Lucas introduced them in the prequels and there was the daft one in TFA on board Han and chewies ship

Captain Phasma was underused as was Benicio Del Toro's character but I assume we'll see him again

Good stuff

Nice that they used a yoda that was more like the original trilogy than the cgi

Daisy Ridley and Adam driver were much improved

Nice twists and good that most of the trailers were complete misdirection

Visually a great looking film. Felt very much like a negative/positive version of ESB in terms of timing and revisiting certain similar plot points.

A very clunky first half - too slow, and some dreadful opening dialogue had me back to Phantom Menace with which it steers too close to on the Space Vegas set-piece.

All is saved by a fantastic second half though with an excellent light-sabre battle, full of visually stunning motifs. Loved the 'red' guards. (Kagemusha) It picks up proper momentum from here.

However at a deeper level for me the Star Wars themes are exhausted and whilst I enjoyed it - it was instantly forgettable.

Some great rug pullers though.

I disliked Rogue One and loved The Force Awakens, as it was a terrific homage.

I have a feeling the "better" films will be the wider universe ones like Rogue and Solo, where they don't have to stick so close to the SW recipe.

Maybe, and I know what you mean about 'better' but there is rousing element to the original Star Wars that can only be remembered as 6,7,8 year old. That's the key to success and why I enjoyed TFA and not R1.

I thought this as well, the way it ends with the Resistance at an all time low, preparing the way for a huge comeback in episode IX

and some dreadful opening dialogue

You mean the 'you're on hold, is that Admiral Hux?'stuff?!?! I thought that was absolutely amazing!!! So irreverent, definitely stuck a much needed finger in the eye of po-faced science fiction.

No, I mean the dialogue coming out of Hux's mouth right at the very start.

Funniest part for me was the steam iron 😆 😆

Some of it was good & some of it was pap.

Mr. Lucas lives about a mile from where I do, in San Anselmo, California. See him out on the streets all the time. Using his own money, he built a beautiful city park in the center of town. Locals call it "Yoda Park" b/c there is a statue in it of the little alien.

Read that before I watched it earlier, and I see exactly what you mean.

Took the boy to the 5.15pm showing, there were only about 30 people in there

5pm for me and it was rammed.

Right fantastic action packed sci-f, some brillaint cinematic moments, brilliant humour and enough ‘member moments too. The Princess Leia floating bit was silly and no we didn’t need another death star.

The Iron part was great a nice tribiute to Boba Fett’s ship.

Oh and the Dreadnought leapong into the scene was briilliant a nice homage to Star Trek when they catch up with the Enterpirise in warp, Star Wars tribbles actually added some humour too.

That warp shot was awesome but I thought the whole plot of the codebreaker leading up to that sequence was pretty unsatisfying. Felt a bit clunky but the casino as cantina was fun visually and I guess it set up the very last scene too.

The Luke / Rey / Yoda parts were the best and Luke's last stand with Kylo Ren was easily my favouite part of the movie. Tatooine tribute shot was so good.

But who the hell is/was Snoke anyway??

The only spoiler here was my night's sleep. I picked up teen 2 from the cinema at 02:50 this morning with three friends. They weren't exactly gushing about it.

Kudos that he was up at 7:30 for school. Along with his friend, who happens to be the son of Teen2's form teacher. I had a lie in.

It does feel a bit like JJ Abrams came up with a load of stuff for TFA which felt star wars-y but wasn't that well thought out, and this film tosses a lot of it rather than following it through. Snoke a bit random - kill him off without finding out who he is. Skywalker theme music when Rey is discovering her powers - but she's not a Skywalker after all. I'm a bit conflicted just now.

Loved it from the start with the bomb dropping scene, to the Porgs popping up everywhere, to the humour (started well with the 'Still holding for...' scene near the start), the jump to light speed kamikaze run and...well, all of it, for me better than Rogue 1 & Force Awakens

Still hasn't been revealed who she is.
