BBC iplayer have just put on a couple of absolute gems that sort of went under the raider. Nighty Night and Early Doors, both of which are absolutely bloody brilliant!

However, the best comedy ever made, by a country mile, is Peep Show which is just the work of unbridled genius

Reeves and Mortimer can be totally hit or miss, and i don't think anyone can explain which is which. Least of all them.

Another couple that nearly killed me at the time.

and not TV but the ongoing Roy Hodgson / Warhammer story from Athletico Mince

You can't pick the funniest. Loads already. But something from this decade...

Friday's night dinners, mainly for the late great Paul Ritter. There is no filler. Won't post a clip because you need the whole episode for the buildup

What we do in the shadows TV show is strong in casting and again very little filler

I will always love still game though.

Rich Fulcher cracks me up.
I loved the Snuff Box series which I think went under the radar when it was released.

This art gallery scene always makes me titter.

Yes, brilliant. The slow build to excruciatingly delivery of the final scene, just fabulous.

Dead fox in the freezer is my favourite, although "do you know how many people I had working for me?" still cracks me up.

As a country we may be on the scrapheap but we do have the best comedy in the world, don't we?

I'm going to post a compilation of clips, and anyone that doesn't like it is a slanderer.

Hmm I really don't know. There is a lot of great comedy.

For eg

French - A very secret service
American - Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn 99
Danish - Norsemen
Multi national- What we do in the shadows*
Canadian - Schitts Creek

*I think Netflix etc has made a real improvement of mixing comedic stylings to make some great shows.

We also have some seriously shit comedy to bring down our average:

Mrs Browns boys
Fawlty towers
Etc

My favourite comedy programme from the last few years has been Man Down. Especially the scenes with Rick Mayal.

Also found Big Train a hoot at the time but rewatched and not so much. But some great ideas. The Tyrant at Home could be updated to Putin hoovering.

I do like a bit of Rab C Nesbitt.

I remember a scene, watching back on my old 12" B&W portable, Rab barrels in to find a sheep up to mischief. He points at it and bellows, "right then ye, ye are a ****in RUG!" It was all in McGregor's delivery of course but I lost the plot, I was howling.

My favourite Armstrong & Miller sketch is the one with Byron, Shelley, etc., back at the chateau to share their stories. Apologies over it being a link (its no longer on Youtube):

Mine is a tale of an enchanted beast…

First time I watched it I literally fell off the sofa laughing so much…

I was also partial to the Trailer Park Boys Space Weed…. (Great decnals)

Lots doesn't stand the test of time, but for some reason Nightingale and Alfred Hitchcock's "The working Classes" are still pretty funny

Any of the RAF pilots sketches from The Armstrong and Miller Show were brilliant, especially if you work with teenagers or have children who speak like them.

I think dad's army is still pretty bloody good despite its age.

Excellent writing. Then you realise that these actors mucking about being silly were people who had seen/experienced the horrors of war. Godfrey for eg

He saw active service in the war, sustaining several wounds in close-quarter battle. His left hand was left virtually useless by wounds sustained on the Somme;[6][8] his legs were riddled with shrapnel; he received a bayonet wound in the groin; and the legacy of a blow to the head from a German soldier's rifle butt left him prone to blackouts after the war.[6][9] He was medically discharged from the army with the rank of lance corporal in May 1917.[7] He received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal for his service.[7]

Adds to the delivery I reckon.

"Some of the “but before I go…” speeches on New World Order had me hysterical. One where he listed a load of bizarre sexual positions in particular. Genius."

Frankie Boyle is absolutely insane. Go watch his shows/get one on DVD though - it takes it to a level that normal telly wouldn't allow 😀

I forgot about an obvious one earlier - most of the Inbetweeners (incl the films). The episode in the first (?) series where they go to the seaside - asking the elderly ice cream lady for a BJ, setting off a flare from a rowing boat in the harbour, Simon standing naked waving to everyone wearing nothing but a sock and Neil punching a fish to death... Think that was the first episode I ever saw and was hooked... Just brilliant, teenage humour that I've hung onto into my 40s...

Well, prompted by this thread and the fact the BBC keeps pulling YT clips, I've just thrown the price of a southern pint at a Big Train DVD collection.

The Big Train no I don’t speak English sketch is one of my faves ever. Although there are many brilliant ones to choose from.

Peep show burnt dog episode. I recall the kind of laugh where you stop being able to breath and laugh turns to panic!

The Toast of London gay voice over scene.
The bit in Frank of Ireland where they are getting cage fighting lessons. 10 seconds in from the begining of the video titled Frank and Doofus bigest fails

We went to see him live a few weeks ago and it was absolutely off the ****ing chart. No way on earth would you get any of that stuff on telly. I was laughing so much it hurt, then you stop and say to yourself “this is so wrong, I really shouldn’t be laughing at that” then laughing even more

The closest you get are his closing monologues on New World Order which are the work of twisted genius!

Meanwhile, elsewhere on the Internet people are whining "you can't say anything any more!"

People like Frankie Boyle put into stark relief what that phrase actually means.
